Nest of Sobki

Culture

The group is a mystery cult, with their exact rituals and practices not known to outsiders. Although not proven, it is said that if one somehow witnesses their rituals, which all take place within Sobki's temple, they are forced to become part of the order themselves or else are dismembered and fed to the Nile's many crocodiles in order to keep them from spreading their secrets.   While their exact practices are not known, it is common knowledge that the cult highly values midwives, doctors, mothers, and young children with strong incentive from their patron god to protect them. Members of the cult are highly encouraged to pursue careers in related fields, such as midwifery, geneology, gynecology, surgery, and teaching.   They also maintain good relationships with gods related to Sobki's duties. The Pack of Ferventi is highly revered as Ferventi is viewed as the natural foil to Sobki, being a god of fathers and sons rather than of motherhood despite the cult having little presence in Egypt. Similarly, Olrath and her cult are revered, though more often for her position as a god of wise women rather than as a maternal figure herself, with such duties replaced by the crocodile god in worship. Wadja, God of Cobras, Henra, God of Vultures and the Cult of the Vulture are also important to the cult's customs due to their relation to marriage, childbirth, and physiology.   Not all relationships with the rest of the pantheon are so straightforward, however. Satari, God of Oxpeckers is oftentimes regaled as a bad omen when worshiped as a god of blood with most interactions viewed as potentially bad luck, though her aspect as a god of secrecy and mystery as one of necessity. Many interactions with Satari or her cult are viewed as placating her and preventing the inevitable, as birth is heavily associated with blood and bleeding, oftentimes heavily, and there is an idea that not satisfying the oxpecker can result in a mother hemorrhaging.   Ludovic, as the god of bloodshed, is viewed as antithetical to the cult and it's purposes. There is some joking among members with ties to the cult that offerings of cheese and milk are given to distract Ludovic, who is notably extremely lactose intolerant but fond of them regardless, to keep his aspect of bloodshed away. How true this is remains unknown. Ludovic's more recent worship as a god of survival, however, has been noted by the cult with some scant public chatter speaking of offerings to be given to him before emergency c-sections or procedures on pregnant women in poor health. As a trickster, he is very rarely viewed as trustworthy, and generally more as a potential problem or bringer of problems to the cult's operations best kept placated and far away from their operations.   Gods relating to sex such as Yung Pagoni, God of Peacocks, Tekuani, God of Jaguars, and Hikaru Vulapin, God of Foxes are surprisingly absent from many of the cult's personal pantheons, as are those aspects of other gods they do worship. This has often been taken in literature to mean that Sobki is not interested in sex herself or the act of creating children, but solely motherhood and protecting the children produced by it. Many of her cult take a similar position, and have stated that there is little pressure to actually have children themselves but they must protect children regardless and those who have them.

Granted Divine Powers

In the rare cases of divine powers being known, they almost always relate to strength, patience, or highly specific skills being granted to members of the cult in order to perform their duties. Most of these cases are members of the cult said to be guardians, be they guards of the temples and shrines themselves or guardian figures of children, pregnant women, and their caretakers. Sobki's priests and her appointed guardians have been noted throughout her reign for their immense brutality when angered or their charges put in mortal danger, with a high frequency for drowning and or dismembering their foes, whose bodies are oftentimes cast into bodies of water and guarded for a time before they are forced (often by Shia, the God of Death themself) to allow them to be given proper burial. Such boons of immense strength are often given in the form of allowing members to turn into crocodiles, though there have been some instances of priests dismembering foes with their bare hands.   Another boon given to Sobki's priests that is known is priests performing duties as midwives, or midwives who have asked Sobki for a boon, will not tire during their duties and can go without food, drink, or rest for extremely long periods of time. This boon is however, a double edged sword, as those who receive it will most often be ravenous and exhausted once it ends.
