Region - Ogria

Geography

Ogria, a pocket of the desolate expanse that are the Frost Wastes in the far north. It derives its name from the Ogre tribes who have claimed dominion over it. The land itself is shaped like an immense bowl, bordered on the west by the rugged Iglophian Mountains and flanked to the east by the towering Messial Mountains. These mountainous rims are sharp and jagged, their features sculpted by relentless northern winds, yet provide some shelter from the unforgiving elements. At the bowl's center lies an expansive, frozen flatland that grows ever wider and more inhospitable as one ventures northward, ultimately merging into the endless Frost Wastes. To the south, this frigid plain narrows dramatically, culminating in the infamous Gap of Grief, marking the boundary where Ogria ends and the warmer lands of Arboria begin.

The heart of Ogria is a frozen expanse, a wide depression blanketed in seemingly endless snow and ringed by sheer cliffs. Dominating this bleak landscape to the north stands a solitary peak, an ancient sentinel silently overseeing the frozen wastes. In their simplistic reverence, the Ogres have deified this imposing landmark, aptly naming it "Big Mountain". The Ogre tribes hold a widespread belief that whichever tribe controls Big Mountain has the divine right to rule over all Ogre-kind. This belief fuels relentless infighting and territorial disputes, and even when one tribe eventually manages to secure dominance over the mountain, the others stubbornly refuse to acknowledge its authority, perpetuating endless cycles of conflict.

To the south lies the strategically critical Gap of Grief, serving as a natural choke point and a defensive frontier established by the Humans of Kyrus. Acting as a metaphorical defensive wall, it is dotted with fortified outposts and crowned by a formidable citadel at its midpoint. These defensive measures help monitor and repel Ogre incursions, yet despite the Kyrusian vigilance, raiding parties occasionally manage to slip past their defenses, spreading fear and havoc among settlements beyond the gap.

Meanwhile, along Ogria's western borders, conflict simmers constantly between the Ogres and the fiercely territorial Narraki Dwarves of Kanarrak. These Dwarves vehemently claim the Iglophian Mountains, and what the Ogres call "Big Lake", as their ancestral homeland and rightful territory. The Ogres, naturally dismissive of such claims by the "puny people", fiercely contest the region, resulting in frequent and violent clashes as each side strives to assert dominance over this inhospitable frontier.

Population

Ogria is entirely devoid of what most would recognize as civilization, yet it is far from uninhabited. Dominating this harsh realm are scattered tribes of Ogres, whose significant presence has given the region its name. These hulking beings, physically imposing yet famously dim-witted, have adapted remarkably well to their brutal surroundings. Thick-skinned and heavyset, with layers of fat insulating them from the biting cold, the Ogres dwell primarily along the edges of Ogria, in caves and crevasses carved naturally into the rocky terrain. These shelters offer some refuge from the brutal winds, but it is their sheer physical resilience that truly enables them to thrive here.

Though slow-minded and narrow in perspective, Ogres possess strength and tenacity, traits that have allowed them to carve out territories, form rivalries, and even wage war among themselves. Occasionally, driven by ambition or simple hunger, Ogre tribes raid the Human realms to the south, with neighboring Kyrus frequently bearing the brunt of their aggression.

Yet Ogres are not the sole inhabitants of Ogria. Scattered throughout the region and its subterranean passages are various lesser races: Goblins, Kobolds, and mischievous Imps, who resort to scavenging and theft to survive. Unfortunately for these smaller beings, they represent the primary source of food for the Ogres, as the barren wastes offer virtually no other wildlife or vegetation. Captured Goblins or Kobolds frequently find themselves enslaved, coerced into menial labor under constant threat of becoming their master's next meal. Indeed, Ogres are notoriously undiscriminating eaters, having consumed Humans, Dwarves, or any creature unfortunate enough to cross their path. In desperate times, when living prey is scarce, they have even been known to swallow rocks, an action that seems neither to harm nor satisfy, but simply to stave off hunger for a time.
