Mortemus

Realm of Death

Introduction

All life on Mortemus was forced beneath the surface when a vengeful Titan struck down the Sunpillar and plunged the world into arctic darkness. They constructed fortified Arkcities to preserve all that remained of the native biosphere at any cost. Each of these cities, known as Depths, is a true exotoric terror preserving a unique antediluvian ecosystem. They sustain these preserves on resources pillaged by their raiders across the Cosmos. With no concern for the ethics or morality of their actions... and their ramifications.

Geography

Unlike most Realms that have continents seperated by seas or oceans, Mortemus is underground and thus uses Depths as it's measurements. I have lots written down as this realm was used several times before.

Depths

Vaal'Dom
Home of the Vyndar, Vaal'Dom was an underground region populated long before Mortemus' sun began to fade away from sickness. Eventually the Vyndary people were forced to seek out new sources of Glow to sustain their civilization, making bargains with ancient creatures beyond the cosmos. Today, Vaal'Dom is slowly being consumed by darkness given physical form while those still living within the depth attempt to fight back no matter the cost.
Hall'Avard
Claimed by the Exarch Toq, Hall'avard has been warped into a tormented hellscape where blood has ran so freely upon the ground that even the mountains have been stained red. Sadly for the inhabitants of this accursed depths, Toq does not give up on his faithful so easily and relies on powerful relics that make sure that his people are unable to escape him even in death.
Esmyr
Under direct rule of the Magi of the Court, Esmyr is a violent depth filled with storm elementals that fight wars between each other on mountainous peaks carved away by their battles. The Magi in the region have learned ways to convert the latent Primal Storm of the region into pure energy for both spellcraft and technology. All of their progress however is spent ensuring that no other Depth attempts to rob them of their secrets.
Mavenhome
Said to have been the final graves of the Old Gods, before the sun became sick, Mavenhome is ran by a strict Theocracy controlled by the Mavens. Each cavern is dedicated to an long-dead Exarch of times past. Yet, through the power of Faith, their power remains strong enough to give their people a chance at life.
Great Stitch
When the raiders of Angorth ripped through the cosmos to make contact with a distant realm, they were fully unprepared for what instead breached into their own. Generations of pillaging left them with little knowledge of how to protect themselves as Putrus seeped through the cracks of the cosmos and began to corrupt and consume Mortemus. In the end, the people of Angorth were forced to use the very scabrous material that leaked into their realm to stitch the Wound of Mortemus closed. To this day, they remain vigilant over the Great Stitch to ensure the safety of their realm.
Edmon's Marsh
The last remaining place of natural life, Edmon's Marsh is a virulent place plagued by both disease and cruelty. Between the Stitcher's Guild who seek ways to create new life out of the Great Stitch and the Scavenger's Coalition who raid other Depths for wealth, there is little room for life outside filth.
Gorgeth
The largest and most recent Depth to be inhabited, Gorgeth is a no-mans land with an ancient history. Storm and Decay Elementals battle for supremacy making settling hard. If it were not for the life giving ocean at its center, most Sophont would have given up on it long ago.

Atmospheric Conditions

Each Depth is so large it has it's own atmosphere.

Sophonts

After the Titan struck down the sun in rage, all Primal Life and Primal Air was stripped from the realm. This has forced the sophonts of the region to become exoteric raiders, pillaging other realms to survive. Among there number are a vareity of manfolk, beastfolk, leechkin, and undead monstrosities.

Flora

Each Depth will have it's entire own ecosystem, most of them supplied by magical means. This makes it hard to write a summary about it.

Fauna

Without Primal Life or Light, many of the creatures on Mortemus would technically be counted as undead. Each Depth has its own ecosystem and the importation of exoteric life into the realm has made Mortemus surprisingly diverse despite its flaws.

Energy Sources

Glow is extracted from Souls directly. The more dead the people of Mortemus can bring to their realm, the more Glow they can acquire. It is believed that the Titan stole most of the Glow to tear down the sun.

Technology

Masters of architecture, illusion magic, and a variety of deadly magics. The people of Mortemus have set aside morality in the attempt at survival, allowing their sciences to spiral out of control. Necromancy and technology are one and the same on the Realm of Death.
