Climate: The climate is subtropical savanna grasslands with some trees in lower areas. The climate paints a vivid contrast with subtropical summers of scorching sun and sporadic thunderstorms, while the winters bear cooler temperatures and more frequent rain. The land springs to life with savanna vegetation, where vast expanses of tall grasslands are punctuated by intermittent trees scattered across the hilly terrain.
Wildlife: Within this captivating terrain roam a myriad of creatures adapted to the semiarid conditions. Elusive antelopes, wildebeests, and gazelles weave through the lower lying grasslands of the hills, while great flocks of majestic birds, gathering in seasonal watering holes, take to the skies, casting shadows upon the hills below. Smaller creatures, like caracal, jackal, hyena, and meerkats, silently navigate the environment with skillful precision.
Humanoids: Few humanoids ever cross into the lands. Due to the violence of the inhabitants, even brief visitation presents grave dangers.
Monsters: In the wake of the Cataclysm, a transformation took root. The Panterr, a race of primative humanoids with torso of a human and the head and lower body of a leopard, emerged as inheritors of the land. Rumored to be descendants of tribesmen touched by the chaos storms, the Panterr occupy the northern reaches of the Ogrukk Hills. They display a semi-nomadic lifestyle, dwelling in hide tepees during the arid summers and embarking on long hunts into the grassy plains of Palanlad as autumn descends.
The Panterr's relationship with the Ranfaroth centaur tribes of Palanlad is taut with tension. Struggles over hunting grounds frequently fuel conflict, amplifying the already complex dynamic between these distinct groups. Yet, the Panterr's most visceral clashes occur further west, in a realm claimed by gnolls. These formidable hyena headed humanoids dominate the Ogrukk hills and share a deep-seated enmity with the Panterr. Their brutal skirmishes have turned the Ogrukk Hills into a perilous war zone, where unsuspecting travelers may become unwilling participants in their battles. With an air of hostility to outsiders, both the Panterr and the gnolls view interlopers as threats, further fortifying the perilous atmosphere.
History: The Great Cataclysm, a devastating event of tremendous magical upheaval, tested the resilience of the Ogrukk Hills. While the land withstood most of the physical destruction, the nomadic human tribesmen who once wandered these hills faced a different fate. Chaos storms, spawned by the Cataclysm, ravaged their numbers, leaving only a few lonely survivors. However, the curse of the cataclysm was not over yet as these last few individuals found themselves becoming horribly corrupted by the chaos magic, and within a few short generations their ancestors’ bodies had transformed beyond recognition creating the Leorr race. Fortunately for the inhabitants, all chaos storms finally ceased hundreds of years ago.
Today: The Ogrukk Hills contrast a beautiful land of short grasses and windswept trees, with herds of antelopes, wildebeests, and gazelles grazing in the distance, while underneath all of this, tribes of Leor and gnolls warily plot against each other in a long war that has lasted many decades.
