Geography: The trees of the Dreadthorn Forest, also known as Gorereg Taur by the Valtauri Elves, stand as ancient and gnarled sentinels of time, their bark etched with stories of ages past. Within the heart of the Dreadthorn Forest, many of the trees have long thorns and woody spikes, protecting them from the encroachment of civilization. Here, the land forms a complex pattern of undulating hills and craggy outcrops. These varied landforms lend an air of dark enchantment to the forest's already mysterious allure, creating an foreboding atmosphere that leaves explorers leary of walking into its depths.

The ancient trees, some of which are semi-sentient, stand as silent sentinels to the passage of time. As the years come and go, the forest endures as its primal power remains intact, a relict of an earlier age.

Climate: Within the forest's temperate climate, rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, nurturing the landscape.

Wildlife: Wildlife prospers in the Dreadthorn Forest due to a lack of human disturbance and hunters. Deer, wolves, and bears along with a large collection of smaller creatures call the forest home.

Humanoids: The forest possesses a unique, mystical aura, partly attributed to the influence of the Unseelie Court that inhabit its depths. These fey beings have intertwined their dark nature magic with the roots of the old trees, causing them to grow long, sharp thorns from their trunks and lower branches that offer formidable protection against unwanted intruders. The Unseelie fey are known to wield their formidable magic against any perceived threats to their domain, further enhancing the forest's aura of danger.

Monsters: The most formidable guardians of the Dreadthorn Forest are the dark treants, that are ancient, powerful, and deeply connected to the forest. These sentient beings wield immense primal strength, using it to fend off any outsiders who dare threaten their sanctuary.

History: As history unfolded, the Dreadthorn Forest weathered the Great Cataclysm with an eerie resilience. While much of the world was plunged into chaos, the forest's innate magic and the protective influence of the Unseelie fey shielded it from the worst of the cataclysmic events. Despite the transformations that swept across the land, the Dreadthorn Forest remained an enigmatic realm, it’s dangerous allure undiminished, and its secrets hidden deep within its darkened heart. The Dreadthorn Forest was once part of the sprawling primeval forest of Aortaur. Now a mere remnant of its former glory, the mighty trees of Aortaur fell under the relentless axes of human woodmen, reducing the ancient forest into fragmented pockets. The heart of the Dreadthorn Forest, however, endured due to its inhospitable nature, and hostility towards humans. Known by the Valtauri elves as the forest of Gorereg Taur, the forest’s enmity has transformed it into a dangerous ever-changing labyrinth of confusing, shifting paths.

Today: The Dreadthorn Forest presents a real danger to any humans who foolishly wander into it. Many who do often disappear without a trace and are never seen again. The shifting paths fool even the wisest woodsmen into stumbling into the many dangerous creatures that lurk within.
