Dnaga

Pronunciation: da-NAGGA

Map Index: I4, I5, J4, J5

Location: Southwestern coast of Centakus

Geography: The land of Dnaga lies on the southwest coast of Centakus, within the embrace of a lush tropical rainforest. Dnaga's landscape is characterized by rolling hills covered with a dense tropical forest composed of ancient colossal trees that tower high above the thickly vegetated forest floor. Almost the entirety of the land sits on an elevated limestone plateau, creating a terrain marked by sinkholes and underground caverns. The presence of this highly permeable bedrock means that Dnaga lacks rivers or swamps. Rainfall rapidly percolates into the myriad of underground rivers leaving only small pools of rainwater to provide water for the wildlife.

Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None

Climate: The climate remains hot throughout the year, with distinct wet and dry seasons. The wet season brings frequent thunderstorms, while the dry season still witnesses intermittent rainfall, with rarely more than a week passing without rain. Dnaga is vulnerable to strong hurricanes that unleash tremendous amounts of rainfall, particularly impacting the coastal regions.

Wildlife: Large and medium sized predators include jaguars, and anacondas. Small predators include ocelots and poison dart frogs. Common birds include harpy eagles, macaws, and toucans. Large herbivores include capybara and tapir. In the trees are hordes of howler monkeys and tree sloths. In the rivers there are giant otters and menacing schools of piranhas. The great saurian creatures that populate the rainforest jungles east of Dnaga occasionally find there way into Dnaga. However, the ever watchful Ulzathi organize hunts to eliminate them as soon as they find them. While the predators are eliminated due to the danger they pose, the giant herbivores are highly prized for food.

Humanoids: The primary humanoid inhabitants of Dnaga are the reptilian Ulzathi, an ancient snake-humanoid race that has been around as long as the elves. Possessing snake-like heads and bodies, with a humanoid chest and two arms, the Ulzathi live in large hunter-gatherer tribes that possess only stone-age technology. They are well adapted to their jungle environment, preferring to live most of their lives above ground, though when it comes to siting their villages, most tribes prefer to build their permanent dwellings inside protective underground caverns.

Despite their limited technological advancement, the Ulzathi possess extensive knowledge of both arcane and divine magic, believed to have been passed down to them from an ancient race of evil humans residing in Hoth N'dorgor. The Ulzathi tribes do not have a centralized government and are prone to intertribal warfare despite living in a dangerous jungle fraught with natural and monstrous hazards.

Due to their deep-rooted hatred of humans, any encounter between Ulzathi and humans typically leads to violent reactions. According to their prophecies, they await the birth of a great warlord who will unite their tribes into a formidable army. This army will march forth into the northern human realms, seeking to conquer and subjugate them.

Monsters: Giant iguanas and giant monitor lizards are the most feared beasts in areas of dense jungle as they lie in wait to ambush prey that strays too close.

History: The land largely escaped the ravages of the Great Cataclysm, with only minor local submergence near the coast. Earthquakes were infrequent, and the destructive tsunamis affecting other regions did not reach Dnaga's coastline.

Today: Dnaga stands as a land of beauty and danger, with the enigmatic Ulzathi tribes at its heart, weaving prophecies and plotting their ambition to expand their dominion beyond their rainforest realm.
