The Confederate Kingdoms of Neuspar
Occupying the vast majority of the populated regions of the continent of Caladin, The Confederate Kingdoms of Neuspar (often called The Seven Kingdoms) are a group of predominantly human monarchies-turned-federal-states under the rule of a High King (currently the beloved High King High King Wothen Gramm the Pauper, 2nd in the Line of Gramm). It is here that any story in this setting is likely to start.
The Seven Kingdoms that comprise Neuspar have a tremendous degree of cultural variance. It is an area roughly the size of continental Europe, with a somewhat similar range in climate and geography. So… that kind of variation.
The The Corvas Accords -- the treaties that formed the Confederacy -- were signed almost 300 years ago, and (though King Gramm II’s rule is just) tensions between the Kingdoms have been rising. The political machinations of many noble houses have slowly eroded some of the safeguards the treaties put in place, and many worry that war may be inevitable within a generation.
Though each nation rules somewhat differently, they are all fundamentally semi-feudal monarchies. Expect some of the trappings of medieval Europe; Kingdoms, Baronies, duchies, and fiefdoms, towns, cities, castles, and lonely fortresses. In remote areas, the chain of command can be weak or break down entirely... A wicked and exploitative Baron is not necessarily a reflection of the kingdom as a whole.
