Kohama

Demographics

Kohama is a diverse city. Heiyans are the most common people here, but many Gredorans migrated here after the War of Refuge. Other than Gredorans, many Cumerians and Anidinians remained in the city after the dragons were driven out.

Government

The Shunso family has controlled Kohama since the days before Jineinoheiya was founded. After the Dragon Crusades, Osaze left the corpse of one of the dragons as his gift for the people. In the mayhem to come, the Shunsos and their warriors took the corpse by force and got rich from its adamantine bones, its coveted blood, its jewel scales. In the ruins of the old life duct there, the Shunsos built their estate. They are now the richest family in all of Heiya.    This history is no secret, but Seo Shunso ensures that anyone telling that story is put to death for their words. The story he tells is that his Shunso forfathers were war heroes in the Dragon Crusades, saving the life of Osaze himself. The story ends in Osaze giving Seo's ancestors the dragon corpse as a life debt.

Defences

To this day, Kohama boasts a formidable military: The Krodor. They protect the city from invaders and enforce the Shunso's laws.

Industry & Trade

Roaring furnaces forge the armaments necessary to keep The Krodor supplied. Generations of alchemical study have resulted in a guild of skilled craftsmen knowledgeable in brewing with dragon blood. At the center of it all is the skeleton of Tuldrein Firebreath. The Shunsos have great vaults of his bones, blood, and scales. Merchants and generals come from far and wide to trade in these rarest of commodities.

Infrastructure

"Wealth flows through Kohama's streets like water."   Kohama has had the benefit of Argosi architects hired to construct the city from the ground up. Windmills support bustling industry while sewers keep the people healthy. A bustling shipyard bring in loads of fish. Gredoran sculptors beautify the city. Narscillian fruits and wines can be found in any respectable establishment.

History

The city was originally founded as a camp for Okabe Shunso and his band of warriors during the Dragon Crusades. Once they had the opportunity to seize the remains of a dragon for themselves, they built up their defenses, selling bits and pieces for workers and material. By carefully guarding the corpse as well as their strategic position near water, they became ludicrously rich.   Dozens, if not hundreds of battles have been fought for the dragon's corpse over centuries. The Shunso's always win, though. With their money came intimate ties to influential Gredorans and Anidinians, and with that influence, their military camp slowly became a city. If not for the symbolic choice of Doragonreiku as Heiya's capitol, Kohama would have been the obvious choice at the time. This suited the Shunso's just fine though.   To this day, Kohama is a booming center for trade. Where Anidine and Cumeria refuse to trade away their precious adamantine, Kohama is more than willing to sell, along with all other dragon components.

Architecture

The inner city is Argosi sculpted stone. Red Sandstone and white marble make up the homes of Okabe Shunso's warbands' descendants. The Shunso's estate itself was constructed to meld into the destroyed lifeduct at the center of the city. Protecting the inner city are sturdy stone walls constructed by the same Argosi architects. The outer city is mostly wood and clay, whitewashed and painted to mimic the rest of the city's stone.
