The Venatione Order
The Venatione are some of the most feared and respected of paramilitary orders in the Magistrate. It is the order which trains and fields the witch hunters of the Magistrate, unmatched in their skills to combat mages that would misuse magic for their own gain. To be absolutely accurate, the witch hunters are the warriors who track down the magi who turn from the laws and rules of the Magistrate. Their task is to order is to make sure that the threat is dealt with, either via peaceful resolution. It is also often forgotten that they are the protectors of mages as well.
Structure
The highest hunter of the order is the Venatori although they are commonly called the Witch-Finder General in the common language and it is also their official rank within the Magistrate.
The witchfinder commands the leaders of the numerous Venatione order houses, which are often connected to the Colleges of Magi schools and towers. This is one of the only truly defined positions among the witch hunters with the Venatori being a sort of greatest among equals. The witch hunters are a brotherhood of brotherhoods with most ranks being extensions of their rank as a hunter rather than a hierarchical rank.
The only highly ranked levels of their order are those who are not full witch hunters, those who are being merely inducted into the orders. For which there are two primary methods.
Each of these order houses operates differently in their preferred methods of fighting and hunting their prey. The Hunters of the Bloody Hand, are particurally well known for using martial arts and their pure fists to destroy their prey.
Public Agenda
Their goal is to protect the Magistrate from mages and protect the mages from the masses who are scared of the strange arts of magic. Their jobs include locating young mages and see that they are safely transported to the Mage Colleges, protecting the college's of magi, enforcing the laws of magic on the mages, and in the situation when mages flee the colleges to locate and return them.
When the laws on the use of magic are broken though, when a mage has crossed the bounds of what is redeemable, it is the task of the venatione order to track them down and put down the witch for the betterment of all mankind.
History
The Venatione Order gets its name from its founder Saga Venatione, the hunter of shadows, and one of three founders who formed the basis of The Magistrate's oldest organizations with the first king of City State of Arcadia. Little is know of Saga, he was a man who cared little to speak of his past. It is however stated by those who would know Saga in the later years that he was the last surviving member of an order long lost to the world. What they did and why they did it is known to this day only to a few within the order. Never the less he was a warrior without equal and trained warriors in his ancient arts.
They have had a long and rough history with the Colleges of Magi, sometimes the two have been the best of friends and at other times the two have been at each other's throats as if they are about to kill one another.
