Hyperion Federation
The Hyperion Federation (shortened to H.F. when abbreviated) is a very technologically advanced coalition of multiple species created by the Originator Empire at the height of their hubris. Its territory can be found within the Aether; a pocket dimension separated from the regular space-time continuum that was originally built by their former overlords as a means of storing the empire's "best works" in a controlled environment.
Aside from a unified military and science wing, this faction possesses very little in the way of centralized government, with all individual star nations and species that consider themselves members maintaining their own localized administrations, each varying in form and overall purpose.
The H.F.'s military headquarters are located on Paragon; a dyson sphere that doubles as an artificial planet.
Chief among this enigmatic coalition's list of species are the Suon people, who were created by the Spectre of Stars - a hyperintelligent supercomputer initially constructed by the Originators as a means to monitor the progress of events and lifeforms inside the Aether.
The star nation that the Suons maintain is referred to as the United Nations of Tebburus, named so after their homeworld. Additionally, there are 12 other Hyperionite star nations, each with its own corresponding form of sentient life:
- The Saelian Coalition, home to the Saelian species.
- The Yunkad Coalition, home to the Yunkad people.
- The Republic of Vanadia, home to the Vanadian people.
- The Leosus Federation, which is bizarrely home to a separate instance of humanity - speculated to have been abducted from Earth and taken to the Aether long ago.
- The Phelke Commonwealth, home to the Phelke species.
- The Micars Empire, home to the Drath species.
- The Union of Sentient Robots, which is home to the H.F.'s Sentient Robot enclave.
- The United People of Zatrides, a government entity that speaks on behalf of the Irziell people.
- The Troznux Clans, which is the government of the Troznux species.
- The Trevan Alliance, home to the Trevan species.
- The Rih'kiel Remnant, a government that represents the surviving members of the Rih'kiel species.
- And lastly, the Drimax United Systems, home to the Drimax people.
Brief History:
For much of their time under Originator watch, the individual Hyperionite star nations acted as any standard collection of interstellar factions would, either creating diplomatic relations with each other or waging war according to their geopolitical interests. However, as time passed, they became increasingly aware that something was quite irregular about their home and existence, leading to a heightened motivation for archeological and scientific pursuits - things they believed would give them the answers they sought.
The most important breakthrough in this regard would eventually come a short time after the Tebburan Unification War, where the Suon people would discover the Spectre's superstructure embedded deep within their homeworld's mantle.
Though it wouldn't reveal the full truth until after the Suons had fully established themselves as a space-faring civilization and made relative peace with their neigboring star nations, the supercomputer would eventually tell the Tebburan natives everything there was to know about their existence and purpose, including the role bestowed upon them by the Originators as the supposed "ultimate lifeform" and inheritors to their empire in the outside galaxy.
Horrifyingly, the other sentient species in the Aether were also revealed to be nothing more than artificial "challenges" or "obstacles" that Tebburus was expected to defeat and subdue, which meant they were viewed as expendable fodder in the grand imperial experiment into which they were born.
This revelation directly led to the entire collection of Hyperionite species - Suons included - openly rebelling against their makers in ~ 23,000 BCE with the Spectre's help, and while the created would eventually emerge victorious over their creators, it came at the cost of trillions of lives, and left them trapped inside their artificial cosmic terrarium until the warp gate connecting it with the outside galaxy was eventually repaired in 2817 CE.
Fortunately for them, however, the consequences of failure would be far worse for their oppressors in the long run, as the defeat they inflicted upon the Originators would eventually result in their increasingly decadent empire near-completely destroying itself through a long and brutal civil war, and nearly rendering the dominant species extinct in the process. By ~ 16,000 BCE, only a small handful of hidden systems in the galaxy's Core Zone remained within its jurisdiction, and little has changed since.
29th Century Status:
Having just recently tasted freedom in the wider Milky Way beyond their home, the H.F. is quite eager to explore the galaxy properly, and has become extremely active in international affairs ever since they first emerged. In particular, they engage in very frequent dialogue with the Galactic Abyssal Federation, which was the first civilization outside the Aether to establish contact with them.
However, their enthusiasm is also compounded by a looming sense of existential dread that exists at all levels of their society; every citizen, soldier, and politician within the Hyperion Federation well remembers how just much fighting the Originators took from them, and as such, they are determined to snuff out and destroy any remnants of the collapsed regime established by their former masters before said remnants can reconsolidate and seek some form of revenge.
Additional Facts:
- Despite their very tumultuous origins, the Hyperionite people as a whole maintain a relatively egalitarian and welfare-oriented society where basic rights are respected, and everyone's needs are met. These circumstances are enforced by a very robust and thorough code of ethics that all member states are required to abide by.
- The acronyms for the H.F.'s military wing and science wing are the H.S.D.F. (Hyperion Self-Defense Force) and the H.S.A. (Hyperion Science Association), respectively. The agency used to establish ethical norms is referred to as the Hyperion Ethics Committee.
Main Story Importance:
- During the first season, the Hyperionites provided substantial aid to Captain Eric Crossman and the S.G.A. Washington as they worked together to stop the sinister plans of a remnant faction of the Originator Empire led by The Timemaster. As the fighting escalated, the larger G.A.F. military also became a co-belligerent to the H.F. forces, joining their side in a series of large-scale battles.
- An incident in 2817 CE involving the forced kidnapping of a Hyperionite pioneer and seizure of the vessel they were traveling on perpetrated by the Starkonian Empire led to an international standoff that nearly sparked a major war. Thankfully, the hostage was rescued with the help of the S.G.A. Washington, allowing further hostilities to be avoided.
- Several crew members of the S.G.A. Washington - including Karlos and Parallax04 - are Hyperionites. They were stationed on board as part of a crew exchange shortly after first contact with Earth.
