Venovian
A species discovered initially on Planet X, Venovians have a reputation for being both insightful, but also vindictive and cruel with their social hierarchy. Most, if not nearly all Venovians have a complete disdain for bright colored material goods. Those that explore beyond Venov are willing to accept other planets and their naturally brighter hues, but consider darker colors to be deeply valuable and holy.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Venovians in their physiology are bird-like, similar to harpies. Though, many believe that Venovians did not look humanoid originally -- they are known for their shape shifting capabilities, and many believe that Venovians only impersonated the human form due to a preference for its aesthetics. In addition to this, Venovians grow rapidly, and last long. A Venovian at the age of seven is already physiologically, fully grown. From then onward, Venovians will retain their youth until one-hundred, when they will show signs of early aging. Venovians typically live anywhere from three centuries to four, assuming they are not killed in war among themselves.

Naming Traditions
Example Venovian names:
Saki-Nil (Sock-E-Neil)
“Ever Persistent” (A name for tenacious Venovians)
Saki-Malar (Sock-E-Mal-Are)
“Ever Brutal”
Saki-Poanstil (Sock-E-Pone-Still)
“Ever Vigilant”
Chichi-Bochai (Chee-Chee Bow-Chai)
“Little One who is Curious”

As we can see in the list above, “Chichi” means little one, or child. For one Venovian to be renamed later on, they could be renamed from Chichi-Navar, which means Little One who is Strong, to Saki-Navar, which means Ever Strong.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
Venovians are very traditional, and easily offended. Though, those that manage to leave their homes become more open to different ideas, yet almost every Venovian has retained their belief in “holy” colors.
They have many deep understandings of rituals and spellcraft, but with this they lack technological expertise, and had no way of distributing magic until mankind developed space travel.
For those within Venovian society, solar and lunar eclipses above Venov are considered an omen, in which weakness must be purged. Those of the lower caste are sacrificed, and if they refuse to be sacrificed, war is waged on them. Venovians outside their society on Venov are often depressed, existential, and will participate in disturbing acts such as blood purging, forced vomiting, and more unless they are able to part ties with their homes.
When Venovians are born, they are given a child name. Child names usually have generic meanings, but this is short-lived. As Venovians escape adolescence, they are renamed to better fit their character traits.
