Peaks of Edelyin

Mountain Ranges

Geography

NOGORTHA PEAKS   The Nogortha Peaks are a tiny, wooded mountain range found in South-west of Edelyin, just to the west of the Arthfell Forest, and is home to rural hillfolk and other outcasts. The infamous barrow mounds called the Nogortha Necropolis is located in a small valley between it and the Arthfell Mountains to the east. The minor Arthrosh River (which flows past the city of Gloomfield) is said to begin in the foothills of the Nogortha   DROS'S CRAG   Dros's Crag is an active volcano located in South Edelyin, in the region known as Darkmoon Vale. The mountain consists of two primary peaks known as the Hammer and the Anvil; the Hammer reaches 28,822 feet in altitude, while the Anvil—which hosts the active crater known as Rova's Caldera—is 28,305 feet tall and grows by about 1 1/2 feet per year. These heights make Dros's Crag the tallest known active volcano on Edelyin   Several rivers originate or are fed from glaciers on the Crag. To date, it has shown no major activity, though the peaks constantly spew ash and smoke into the air as a constant reminder of the threat that exists beneath the snow-capped mountain.   ASPODELL MOUNTAINS   The Aspodell Mountains form the eastern border of the land that divides the lands from the small isle. Unlike the Five Kings Mountains on Vastaria, the Aspodells are not a particularly tall range, but their highest peaks are known to reach above 9,000 feet. The mountains' rugged slopes form a substantial border between Edelyin, with only one easy pass, the Aspodell Pass, overlooked by the walled town of Piren's Bluff. As the iron-rich mountains are claimed by both neighboring nations, Edelyin maintains a military presence in Aspodell Pass as well, although the rest of the mountains are lightly inhabited, monster-infested, and not known to hold significant mineral wealth.   ARTHFELL MOUNTAINS   The Arthfell Mountains (sometimes known as the Arthfell Peaks) They are a minor mountain range located in North-east of Edelyin, East of the Arthfell Forest and north-east of the Nogortha Peaks. Barely 40 miles in length, the Arthfell Mountains are largely covered in purple heather and small stands of fir trees, and possess a rugged beauty seldom seen in more settled lands.

Ecosystem

Most of the mountains are home to lightly inhabited, monster-infested areas which hold mineral wealth and resources. Especially monsters or creatures that are specific to the area.

Localized Phenomena

DRO's CRAG   The volcano last erupted during the calamity in a massive explosion known as the Rending, which transformed the entire region. To date, it has shown no major activity, though the peaks constantly spew ash and smoke into the air as a constant reminder of the threat that exists beneath the snow-capped mountain

Tourism

Aspodell Mountains   Candlestone Caverns Infested with kobolds, gremlins, and other hazards, the Candlestone Caverns provide explorers with an entrance to the Nar-Voth level of the Darklands. This cavern is also the nearest entrance to the fey Court of Ether.   Crystal Falls A majestic waterfall in the southern Aspodells that seems to be haunted.   Piren's Bluff This strategically located town overlooks the Aspodell Pass, the only pass through the Aspodell Mountains. Currently held by Edelyin, rumors suggest that local dignitaries wish closer ties with other nation. The local baron has even ordered construction of a temple to Daimore within his small demesne's walls   Dro's Crag   Dros's Crucible Leaping in the shadow of Dros's Crag on the edge of Darkmoon Vale lies the now-ruined monastery once known as Dros's Crucible. At its prime, the monastery was home to dwarven clerics of the malevolent god Daimore, who urged them to ever toil in making weapons on their great forges. The evil forge spurned which came as a result of their worship eventually drove the dwarves out of their haven, and left behind a now-haunted shell of a building. After its fall to decadence and decay, legends began to spread among the dwarves telling of vast riches now lost beneath the crumbling citadel. The greatest dwarven hero, Druingar the Glintaxe, ventured into the depths below the once-sacred site in search of secrets and the ancestral gauntlet the Grasp of Dros, but he was never heard from again, and inhabitants of the Vale still talk of his ghost haunting the ancient ruins. In the dungeons beneath, the Truescale Kobolds now make their home, ever balanced between their desire to delve deeper into the earth and their fear of what frightening beings lie in wait for them there.
