The Pevenaric Empire

Stretching across the centre of the known world, The Peveniric Empire is an immense colonial nation which vastly overwhelms all the smaller countries surrounding it. It is by far the largest nation so far discovered, and it comprises so many different ethnicities, peoples, and fiefdoms that it could be considered more of a confederation than a true unified empire. It encompasses an entire continent, from frigid oceans to subtropical lowlands, and is always on a knife's edge between order and anarchy.   The Empire was, until recently, ruled by a massive and constantly bickering council of nobles both powerful and minor, and was frequently wracked by civil war and constant unrest. However, it is currently presided over by a single High King, Pascal I, and under him the Five Kings (glorified major lords, essentially; they were formerly the lords of Wulferai, Sulez, Tarquungnaahlaqq, and Mathacaer, as well as the deposed former Imperial King Of Sabre). Beneath these are the aforementioned minor lords, who still feud with unfortunate regularity. Yet it seems as though they are united in the insatiable desire to sail to distant shores, to bring civilisation to what they see as chaos. Already the Empire has sent ships into the warm, volcanic heart of the Hakanoako sea to find a bizarre land of venom and drought, and north to the ice-locked isles where strange tribes rule.   And while the Kings may have good intent, their underlings seek only one thing: conquest, wherever it can be found.

Structure

The highest position in Peven is High King. It was created after King Pascal came to power. The High King oversees all the kingdoms of the empire. It is his duty to be sure that there is no corruption or anything along those lines happening, along with the empire-wide resource collection and distribution, military leadership and religious leadership. At this moment, High King Pascal of Danalel and Zant holds this position.   Next are the kings. Each king ...

Territories

The Peveniric Empire controls nearly all of the massive continent which has come to be known as Peven, and its myriad provinces, realms, kingdoms, duchies, and fiefs are vastly different from each other in terms of culture, geography, and government. It stretches from the warm Lumori Peninsula in the south to the frigid wastes of Thuula in the north, and incorporates several colonies beyond even these. The centre of Peven is the city of Pelradan, as well as the fertile Peveniric lowlands surrounding the city. Almost equally important is the tiny but vital area of Taralbia, the centre of Peveniric colonialism, which connects it with its trade partners on the continent of Ch'ing-tu and houses much of the formidable Iron Fleet. The islands of Jaka'a, Albland, Korriven, as well as Aazater, are all counted as colonies. In the west, it controls the Duchy of Haalgaroek, which operates seperately from Peven but is still officially bound to it. It includes the powerful Kingdom of Sulez, in the southwest, which joined the empire under pressure and is still resentful of being assimilated into it. It also incorporates the Isle of Mathacaer, a large and densely forested island affected deeply by wild currents of magic. More centrally, it occupies Alchdara, homeland of the Darthenndri, the wooded land of Kraugsvell, the mountains of Wulferai, Dorinavelle, and the elf-haunted region of Alfen Ythrea. Farther east, it stretches into the backwoods of Tarquungnaahlaqq and Uthok Arkav.

Religion

Peven is so tremendous and varied that it does not have a truly dominant religion. However, one of the most prominent is the worship of Wulfayne and Pheonine, the deities of moon and sun. Numerous temples have been constructed to them across the empire, and their symbols are featured on the crown, scepter, and orb of the High King. This faith goes back tens of thousands of years, to when the Darthenndri were barbaric nomads on the central steppes of Peven. During that time, the sun and moon were worshipped in huge, megalithic circles on the plains, and evidence seems to show that the early Darthenndri druids used these standings stones as a means of chronicling the paths of the sun and moon. Religion was repressed at the beginning of the empire by Belric and Hanralix Danalel, the rulers of the first Peveniric proto-state, but after Belric's son Llangmir succeeded to the throne the people were allowed to worship freely. Dozens of temples, great and small, were constructed to these deities across the burgeoning state. However, as it absorbed other fiefs, Peven enthusiastically embraced the local gods of those regions. Currently, a large percentage of the population still worships Pheonine and Wulfayne, but Taarloh, god of trade, has also become quite popular, as has Shravina, goddess of beauty, love and art.

"Forever in Unity, Forever in Victory" OR "Through Unity we Conquer"

Founding Date
The empire was founded approximately 400 years ago, as a response to the Kravic threat from the northeast. However, its roots go back tens of thousands of years, and the basis for the Peveniric empire was the kingdom built by Belric and Hanralix Danalel.

The Amhaerite exodus and foundation of the first Peveniric state
    Founding

Belric and Hanralix Danalel flee south from their homeland of Alchdara, taking with them a horde of Amhaerite Darthenndri. They arrive in the fertile Kallun delta in southern Peven and annex a huge swath of territory then controlled by the Dalos. On a large island in the river they found Pelradan, now the capital of the Peveniric empire. They forcibly wrest the Kallun delta from the Dalos, killing many and enslaving many more. The few surviving Dalos set sail for the Andalikos islands.
