The Ember Tears

The Ember Tears, also known as the Flaetreskya, is a waterfall along the Oxid River in Hrim. It is unique as its fall line exposes layers of lava in the volcanoes from its origin in the Lister Mountains near the Kingdom border. The lave flows from specific layers in the strata, exposed and often glowing red hot. The water heats as its passes the exposed lava, generating steam and mixing with vapors from the ferrous soil. The result is a deep red mist around the falls and the river becoming a dark red for the remainder of its journey to the sea.
  The site is located in particularly challenging terrain, even for Hrim locals. It is said that anyone who is able to make the arduous journey to look upon the falls will be granted a long life. As such, it has become a place of pilgrimage for the daring in the region. It is rumored that famous heroes of the Kingdom, Gorm Granite-Eye, Elsynkia, Jiru of Tutfield, and Rembran the Giant visited the Tears when on their way to subdue the rogue Augur, Gianna Pirritia, in 7977 during the Canorton Heresy after she had fled to Hrim. Their group went on to live extraordinarily long lives, with Elsynkia, an elf, being the last to pass in 9012 at the age of 1321. As a result of this apparent confirmation, the Tears have become a point of pilgrimage for would-be adventurers, much to the chagrin of Hrim locals.
