General Summary
Night crept over the encampent like a toothache. Slowly, and painfully. The tents were raised, bedrolls laid out, dinner forgot.
"I Don't think I have fought that many monsters a day in my life." Groaned Celebrest. "I don't suspect I'll be able to move tomorrow. You'll have to put me on a palanquin like some tottering emperor."
"Best I can do is drag you on your bedroll. If I can move, that is." Grayson slumped against the trunk of an ironwood, spattered with his own and other's crimson, watching the firey sun sink below the far off dunes.
"Well I suppose that will have to do. You ever wonder about hiring on more people? Might make a day like this somewhat easier."
"I do... so far it hasn't been this bad though. And I know we both like the fifty-fifty." Grayson sighed. "At some point it might be worth it to bring in another couple folks. My back might hurt a little less."
"No kidding. We'll have to go look in-Aughch!" Celebrest yelped as she adjusted on her bedroll, clamping a hand against her bandaged side. "Damn. That last biter got me good."
"We might need to camp out for a while. Until you can move a little easier."
"That might be just the thing. Thanks for stopping the bleeding. Never got hit that hard before." She chuckled. "Guess that's what happens when you drop out of wizard academy."
"Serves you right you slacker." Grayson laughed with a tired smile parting his face.
"I think I'm going to take tomorrow off. I earned it."
"You earned it? Come on, I did all the heavy lifting."
"Oh yes, I am sure. I don't suppose it was you that eliminated half their forces with a well timed rockslide."
"As I recall I carried you out of there when you became too exhausted to cast spells"
"And so you did. I guess you get 51% of the credit." Celebrest rolled her eyes. "But I'm keeping my 50% of the cut. Call it workers compensation" The rest of the evening passed a little gentler, and sleep came swiftly to the two heroes.
