Mykentos collapses giving the traditional Republic Day speech. He is immediately taken into the office of the Hilt.
The history of the First Republic is widely considered to begin with the undisputed election of Ecipsos as Hilt in the year 10, and end with the election of Mevos in the year 502.
The disasters of this period would largely erase documentation of the Age of Mykentos and the extremely short lived Republic Era.
Mykentos collapses giving the traditional Republic Day speech. He is immediately taken into the office of the Hilt.
The Assembly, State Council, and Heunos go into emergency session when it becomes clear Mykentos is not going to immediately recover.
After slipping in and out of consciousness since collapsing, Mykentos falls into a coma. Tycha and Ecipsos immediately begin preparing the stasis chamber on the Omnos ship with the approval of Heunos member Teutos of Gal.
The Charter of the Republic is ammended to make abuse of power, tyranny, corruption, and treason capital offenses, additionally barring the immediate family members of those convicted from holding public office for three generations.
Mykentos is secretly placed in stasis aboard the Omnos ship. This time will be officially recorded as the time of death. Ecipsos informs the Assembly, while Teutos informs the Heunos.
Supreme Justice Gruxa convenes the Court of Supreme Justice to hear cases on corruption and abuse of power by government officials. Records are unclear as to the exact number of officials executed under the Gruxa Act.
Speaker of the Assembly Ecipsos publicly announces the death of Mykentos. A riot immediately begins in Entani.
The Assembly temporarily suspends the Personal Edification Law of the year 4, immediately granting Mykentos the title Tugah for ending the Great War, as well as "the Greatest" for founding the Republic.
Ecipsos arrested on orders of Gruxa for treason and the assassination of Mykentos. He immediately escapes with the assistance of Heunos member Teutos of Gal.
The Republic is officially renamed "The Republic of the People of Mykentos," and the planet Erd'os is renamed Mykentia.
After briefly considering Gruxa for Hilt, the Heunos decides instead to leave the seat of the Hilt permanently vacant. The civil authroities of the Hilt will be divided between Teutos of Gal, Radcos of Cen, and Ferlas of Mon'so. Tycha will directly command the Republic military as the newly created Grand Knight of the Republic.
Supreme Justices Asdo and Verlas arrive in the Capital and charge Gruxa with abuse of power, tyranny, and treason. She is immediately executed on the steps of the Court of Supreme Justice, yet the other Justices do not overturn any of her findings or sentences.
The armed forces of Entani are officially renamed the Legion of Mykentos and granted authority over the Capital District.
The Legion of Mykentos moves to restore order in Entani at the request of the Heunos.
Under the command of Tycha, the Legion of Mykentos invades Yerlaja in what would be the only war of conquest the Republic would ever wage. The Heunos grants Tycha absolute authority to deal with Yerlaja as she sees fit, as there is evidence they may have been at least partially responsible for the death of Mykentos.
Mykentos' teacher Neltak is rescued from the Utrajalek Inquisition, where he has been imprisoned and tortured since he arrived in Yerlaja as envoy to end the Great War.
The High Priests of the Utrajalek are forced to name Renzak of Yerlaja First High Priest. He quietly exiles the High Priests and closes the Temple of Yerlaja. All temples and shrines of the Messenger Belura are handed over to the Republic, while all others are given to the city states in which they are located.
With the approval of the Heunos, Tycha appoints Neltak to command the Legion of Mykentos. He immediately stops using his own name and adopts the title "First of the Legion," commenting that "Neltak died with the Greatest." This would begin the tradition of all members of the Legion erasing their identities.
As news begins to reach the population of Yerjlaja of Mykentos and the founding of the Republic, a mass exodus and abandonment of the city begins. The Assembly accepts a petition on behalf of the people of Yerlaja to abandon the city, and an orderly evacuation begins.
Tycha gives birth to Radentos, confessing to Ecipsos and Neltak that he is the son of Mykentos. Born prematurely and with many of Mykentos' genetic disorders, Radentos begins having seizures and severe reactions to latent radiation from the ongoing fallout. Neltak drugs Tycha and places Radentos in stasis aboard the Omnos ship, informing her after she regains consciousness.
Heunos member Dolos of Saros dies of a respiratory disease suspected to be cancer. He is replaced by Hrenda of Apos.
Heunos member Antea of Trothos dies of an unspecified illness. She is replaced by Reda of Insin.
Heunos member Feroda of Eryth dies. She is replaced by Galnek of Man'so.
Galnek of Man'so is assassinated outside the Heunos chamber by fellow Heunos member Grinia of Ocea, who implicates Heunos member Yerek of Ver in the plot. Ferlas of Mon'so moves that both Ver and Apos be immediately ejected from the Heunos. Yerek immediately flees Entani.
Yerek of Ver declares himself Hilt of the Republic in exile, and attempts to form a government. The remaining members of the Heunos with the exception of Radcos of Cen and Teutos of Gal name Ferlas of Mon'so Hilt. Radcos and Teutos immediately leave Entani.
Ferlas of Mon'so requests the declaration of a State of Emergency. Speaker of the Assembly Ecipsos attempts to block the motion, but is overruled by a majority vote.
Ferlas declares martial law throughout the Republic and orders the arrest of all Knetreka members of government and the Assembly pending investigations into charges of treason. Fearing similar threats, the former Utrajalek cities immediately fall in line. The army of Mon'so begins to redeploy around Entani.
Speaker Ecipsos flees to Lek in fear of being charged with treason for attempting to block the declaration of a state of emergency.
In defiance of Ferlas, Radcos of Cen declares himself Hilt, swearing to uphold the Great Charter.
Panicked by the increasingly chaotic situation, the Assembly votes suspend their current session and return to their home cities in an attempt to calm the citizens.
The armies of Cen and Acanos under Radcos move down from the Utros mountains into the Endless Plains. Ferlas attempts to defend with the Army of the Republic, which fractures and retreats forcing him to defend with only the army of Mon'so.
Yerek negotiates an agreement with the Tavenso cities of Otos and Treska, which had not joined the Republic, promising them seats on the Heunos in return for their support against Ferlas and Radcos.
Ferlas flees Entani when Radcos is able to establish contact with the Legion of Mykentos and loses control of the Capital. The First of the Legion declares that all three Hilts are illegitimate as they were not elected by the Assembly or other legitimately representative body, and refuses to grant control of the Capital to Radcos.
Otos launches an invasion of Cen under the leadership of Yerek, while Treska moves on the Republic city of Arvos.
City of Mon'so uses a nuclear weapon on Entani, missing directly hitting the Capital, but still causing immense damage. The Hall of Knowledge is consumed in a fire, destroying most of the archives of the first years of the Republic and many of the pre-Republic historical accounts. The Great Charter is saved from the fires in the Capital by the First of the Legion, who enters the burning building to retrieve the document.
Speaker Ecipsos arrives in a devastated Entani with the Great Charter and calls for the Assembly to return.
The Assembly of the People nominates Ecipsos as Hilt. As Speaker, Ecipsos has no authority to call the State Council or Heunos to meet, so his nomination remains unconfirmed. The First of the Legion recognizes that the Speaker is the highest ranking legitimately elected member of government in Entani, and treats him as the de facto Hilt. Tycha follows suit as Grand Knight of the Republic.
The first units of the Army of Lek arrive in Entani, and Speaker Ecipsos orders them to either consider themselves part of the Army of the Republic and swear loyalty under the Great Charter, or to return to Lek.
Following negotiations, Teutos of Gal returns to Entani and immediately takes up his seat on the Heunos.
Radcos of Cen withdraws his declaration of Hilt in favor of Ecipsos, and is persuaded by the Speaker to return to the Heunos.
Tycha and Radcos migrate to Neo Mykentia, bringing the stasis pod with Radentos with them. They are to coordinate the transfer of government officials from Mykentia to Neo Mykentia. A follow up mission is planned to bring the stasis chamber with Mykentos to the world once facilities are prepared.
After numerous attempts to find a stable hyperspace route back to Mykentia fail, the people of Neo Mykentia vote to establish a second Republic. Tycha remains Grand Knight of the Republic, and Radcos is elected Hilt of the Sword of Mykentos.
Old Regime vs. Mykentia. The Regime's goal is to block any further Mykentian expansion.
The hastily assembled Mykentian fleet defeats an Old Regime task force in the Antos system.
The provincial government of Bablos is convinced that the Republic is too large to be governed by a single world. They propose to the Heunos that a second capital be established. When the Heunos refuses, claiming that such an act would merely divide the Republic, Bablos rebels. The basis for their rebellion was the “unresponsiveness” of the Heunos to the needs of the provinces. Bablos intends to set up a second republic. The people of Bablos and the neighboring provinces petition the Republic to restore them to Mykentia under the terms of the Mykentian Charter. Acting under the authority of the Mykentian Charter, the Republic dispatched three battlegroups to suppress the rebellion. The crushing of the Bablos Rebellion took seven months, at which time the leaders were arrested and charged with high treason against the Mykentian People. Antonos deposed by Assembly and Cassios elected Hilt.
Assembly removes Coerilios with a vote of no confidence, primarily because his economic and political reforms are considered too extreme and exceed the mandate of the Hilt as leader of the military. Almena is elected as first female Hilt.
Old Regime vs. Mykentia.
Frustrated by maintaining a stalemated war for 7 years, Atrea retires with most government officials to make way for a new administration. She calls for special elections to replace the Assembly, Heunos, and Hilt simultaneously. Edos “the Restrainer” is elected Hilt. The Heunos immediately declares a state of emergency, allowing Edos to mobilize the full resources of the Republic and to restructure the military for the first time since Ixios established a permanent fleet. The first official Battlegroup is named “Ixios” in honor of the founder of the fleet.
The Old Regime calls this an act of “unwarranted aggression.” The Republic ignores their protest.
Old Regime vs. Mykentia
Assassinated out of fear that he will proclaim the Cult of Mykentos the official religion of the Republic, creating a “union of Church and State that created the Darkness before Mykentos.”
Multiple provinces withdraw from the Republic simultaneously. The citizens request the restoration of the Republic because their new government is a totalitarian dictatorship. Exavos dispatches three Battlegroups, but the local response forces and Battlegroup have also rebelled.
The Assembly officially censures Exavos for repeatedly requesting the declaration of a state of emergency, with many members stating their suspicion of the Hilt as so many provinces conveniently rebelled simultaneously in an apparently coordinated action.
Old Regime vs. Mykentia
The war on multiple fronts has proven such a strain that the Assembly takes the unusual action of electing a co-Hilt, tasking each with focusing on a single crisis.
The Old Regime fleet crumbles and offers unconditional surrender when Zela places a fleet in position to orbitally bombard their home world. Zela negotiates an extremely generous treaty, leaving the border unchanged and demanding no reparations or concessions other than a promise of non-aggression by either party.
Zela discovers evidence that Exavos lured the Old Regime into the invasion of Mykentia with secret promises of an easy campaign and territorial concessions, hoping that either the Assembly or Heunos would declare a state of emergency granting him absolute power. She also uncovers a network of bribes and corruption, with Exavos at the center. Exavos is tried by the Assembly and sentenced to death per the anti-corruption laws of Mykentos.
Cratinos is charged with abuse of government funds and sentenced to death, per the anti-corruption laws of Mykentos.
Citing similar reasons as the Bablos Rebellion in 86, and seeing numerous cases of local corruption, vast regions of the Republic break out in violent insurrection. The fleet is torn between loyalist and rebel forces. The Assembly declares a state of emergency and orders Alania to crush the insurrection. The Hilt uses a combination of fleet actions, aggressive prosecution, and focused public works projects to bring the rebellious provinces back into the Republic.
The Assembly is given information indicating that Zenos had the Hilt Daemos assassinated, as well as arranging for the rapidly growing rebellion of Arendeos. In response, Zenos has those opposed to him in the Assembly, as well as the entire Heunos arrested on the charge of treason, for "exposing state secrets."
Fleet Admiral Mevos openly declares Zenos a usurper, rebel, and traitor, and calls on all fleet units to join him in restoring the Republic. Several fleet units immediately declare martial law in the provinces where they are stationed and join Mevos. The remaining members of the Assembly declare a state of emergency.
The fleet units under Mevos declare him Hilt, but he himself refuses to use the title. Zenos in turn labels Mevos a tyrant leading a military junta.
Fleet Admiral Eraditos is dispatched to deal with Mevos, and immediately switches sides once contact is made. Mevos orders him to assume command of the front facing Arendeos, and delay them as much as possible while he deals with Zenos.
Zenos declares himself to be the "Defender of the Republic" since he was elected Hilt by the Assembly, whereas Mevos was named Hilt by the fleets under his command. This move helps solidify the resolve of many of the fleet units under his control. Mevos counters by declaring himself "the Restorer of the Republic."
Zenos does not bother to hide his collusion with the rebels of Arendeos, directly ordering them to launch a massive assault on Mevos to draw units away from his own beleaguered forces. Mevos has no choice but to fall back, switching his attention the the Arendeos front, where they have claimed an entire quadrant.
Mevos gathers all the forces he can spare and approaches Mykentia undetected by bypassing all star systems. His fleet appears with no warning and advances on the Capital itself. The loyalist forces of Zenos fight a brutal, but futile campaign over several days. Upon reaching the Capital, Mevos immediately calls for a truce, so he may "pay homage to the great founder" by visiting the Tomb of Mykentos. Zenos agrees, knowing this will force Mevos to be separated from his fleet and allow him to be captured and executed. Mevos demands that the Legion of Mykentos join him in declaring Zenos a usurper and tyrant, because the Assembly and Heunos have not, as yet been restored. Zenos is immediately arrested by the Legion and executed. Mevos does not immediately assume the title of Hilt, choosing instead to wait for peace and the election of a new Assembly.
Using the anti-corruption laws of Mykentos, Mevos has all candidates opposed to him charged with various, trivial offenses to prevent them from being able to run for office. He is officially elected Hilt and retains the state of emergency.
