Neltak
Neltak was an acolyte of the Utrajalek Temple in Yerlaja, the headquarters of the Utrajalek during the Great War of Erdos. As a student of High Priestess Rela, the head of the Utrajalek Inquisition, Neltak was known for his tenacious orthodoxy and sadistic instruction methods, and was expected to join the inquisition himself. Instead he would follow Mykentos into exile in Entani, returning to Yerlaja in 326 H.E. to invite the people of the city to join Mykentos in ending the Great War. Neltak would be arrested by the Utrajalek Inquisition as a heretic and vanish. As no trace of Neltak was discovered, it was assumed that he had died in custody as a result of the Inquisition’s notorious torture.
Spoilers for Age of Mykentos
Neltak was assigned to be the teacher of Mykentos when he first arrived at the Yerlaja Temple. While his teaching methods often displayed sadism, he restrained himself as he quickly discovered that he actually liked and respected the young novice. It would be Neltak that discovered and formulated the basic understandings that would come to be known as The Fourth Path. Neltak would pass through the Gateway to Heaven after Mykentos and Tycha had discovered what was inside, making him one of the few people to know of the existence of the Omnos cruiser concealed underground.
Following his arrest by the Inquisition, he would be tortured for years until the occupation of Yerlaja by the newly formed Legion of Mykentos in 5 R.E./MY. Severely disfigured by the torture, Neltak would erase his own identity, and on being given command of the Legion of Mykentos he would be known only as the First of the Legion.
Informed that Mykentos was the father of the prematurely born Radentos, Neltak would abduct the critically ill infant and place him in stasis alongside Mykentos. Neltak would later spend years recording the lessons he had taught Mykentos so that Radentos would receive the same education as his father.
He would also spend years studying the Omnos cruiser beneath the capital, discovering many of its functions and capabilities. It would be Neltak that arranged for the recording system in the office of the Hilt that allowed Mykentos to experience everything that occurred.
It was also Neltak that was responsible for the comprehensive erasure of all images of Mykentos and organizing the cult of personality that surrounded him into what would ultimately nearly become a state religion.
Neltak would retire as First of the Legion in 43 MY, secretly having surgery to amputate his lower left arm. Following his death in 45 MY, it would be Neltak’s body that would be embalmed and placed in the Tomb of Mykentos to maintain the illusion that Mykentos had been buried there should the Legion ever lose control of the Tomb.
Ecipsos, who had met both Mykentos and Neltak before the ending of the Great War, would later state that “If Mykentos had a family, Neltak would have been his father.” For his part, Neltak would confess to Tycha that he considered Mykentos a brother, and that he felt the world was cold and dark without him by their side.
