Personal history
Art is a changeling whose nomadic tribe was decimated in an attack when he was a child. He was taken in by a wizard who'd raise him as an apprentice. In reality the wizard, Hesk, orchestrated the attack to isolate a changeling child and gain their trust. Hesk raised Art with the goal of swapping bodies with him. He did this by swapping their souls using a combination of necromancy and divination magic. Art is now trapped in an old man's body.
Being a trapped soul has granted Art some access to sorcerer metamagic. Art wants his body back, but the divination magic he was trained in doesn't seem to work to find it, making him search the old-fashioned way. He has recruited a survivor of the massacre friend (Fiadh's character Cres) to help him.
Hesk owes a ton of gold to the thieves guild and his OG body to fiends. This is now Art's problem, along with basically being thrown into middle age and experiencing the trauma of not being able to shift anymore.
And for some spice, Art was in love with the village Baker, but cannot bear to see him while stuck in the body of an old man.
