There are guilds of different tradespeople across The Realm, from blacksmiths to clothiers to shipbuilders. Although they are not present everywhere, it is safe to assume they occur in major and seaside cities. Additionally, it may be assumed that not everyone is truthful and forthright with the greatest offers and quality. The maxim "caveat emptor" is fundamental and should be followed. It's also worth considering the possibility of a band of enterprising criminals adopting a guild as a cover for riskier or more "colorful" activities. This should not, however, cause one to avoid doing business or trade, just that one should be mindful.
It is noted that thieves' and some magic user guilds are an exception and don't seem to have a physical item but some other form of identification.
