Primal Energy

Primal energy, also identified as Primal, is the basis of all magic throughout all of the realms and planes of Pandoria. Primal energy supposedly existed before the arrival of Pelbon but only in a very limited way. The majority of spell casters were limited to being able to cast simple cantrips and on very rare individuals being able to cast first level spells, and within that rare group an even rarer group could cast up to level two. Cleric spells were non-existant in the time before Pelbon. With the massive influx of Primal, magic has become more prolific but also a the cost of being more dangerous for some.
