Noble Marriage

Observance

The marriage between nobles (in particular human nobles, and almost always also when human nobles marry non-humans) is based on the houses that the couple's families come from. The wedding takes place on the moon of the husband's house, and the day of the wife's house.

RESPONSES
Masons
"There exists only one woman who successfully wrangled such a thing out of me, and you may not be surprised to learn she would go on to become my wife and a valued member of our operations."
-- Subvizier Aloysius Mason.
Dargent-Laureats
"Certainly not. I mean… obviously, it was my wife."
-- Vizier Victor Dargent-Laureat.
"Oh, um. It was pretty good. He was… nice. It didn’t work out."
-- Viziera Satine Dargent-Laureat.
Ironsides
"Madeleine Fitch! Spirited girl! Only female that ever gave me a black eye! Secretary for a Company man now! Won’t pass on my calls!"
-- Vizier Balthazar Ironside.
"Uh."
-- Subvizier Agamemnon Ironside.
"Not possible, I’m afraid."
-- Katib Menelaus Ironside.
"I held him against the wall so he could reach. For that reason alone Dad wouldn’t approve."
-- Katiba Britomart Stargazer-Ironside.
Stargazers
"Snuck down into the dwarven undercity with a lass named Arabella when I was 14. Found a way into a blocked-off temple my old dad hadn’t gotten access to yet, and got caught up in the excitement."
-- Vizier Leopold Stargazer.
"No."
-- Viziera Andromeda Stargazer.
"My parents didn’t want to set me up with anyone officially until they could get an optimal deal locked down, so I took matters rather into my own hands not long after my brother found his first betrothed. My first was actually an elven kitchen wench named Rina. My father agreed to make her my first concubine when I came of age."
-- Subvizier Pollux Stargazer.
"I held him against the wall so he could reach. For that reason alone Dad wouldn’t approve."
-- Subviziera Britomart Stargazer-Ironside.

"I’ve rather gotten into the habit of very much not telling anyone about that one."
-- Katib Castor Stargazer.
"It was at my wedding, and it wasn’t my favourite."
-- Katiba Cassiopeia Stargazer-Greenskin.

"Exquisite."
-- Bartleby.
Dargents
"Who remembers."
-- Vizier Richard Dargent.
"He was rich, and gullible, and I took his wallet."
-- Viziera Guinevera Dargent.
"Certainly not. I mean… obviously, it was my wife."
-- Subvizier Victor Dargent-Laureat.
"Oh, um. It was pretty good. He was… nice. It didn’t work out."
-- Subviziera Satine Dargent-Laureat.

"Well, officially it was to the girl who is now my sister-in-law. And according to my parents that's the less shameful answer."
-- Katib Hugo Dargent.
"I’m nine, silly."
-- Katiba Scarlett Dargent.

"I believe it was one of the orc nobles, and not from the nice family. He had gold eyes and he's dead now. It would surprise you how irrelevant a common language is in the game of snake and mouse."
-- Lindie Asklepa.
"Ew, no! I mean, sorry, I try to stay away from all that sort of stuff. Bunny girls have two modes at this court, and I prefer to stay firmly in the cute category. If I ever do end up going there, I may need to have a talk with my mum first... or maybe Martini?... Someone who'd know what a rabbit's meant to do with her teeth."
-- Connie Furr.
"[snarls] Try it."
-- Voltaire.
Carterholds
"I spent so long trying to act properly I never kissed anyone until I was sixteen. We settled on the nicest-seeming cute guy in court who my parents and my religion both approved of. Turned out he had a secret gay lover and I ended up single again anyway. I’ve done what I can to make up for it since, with pretty mixed results."
-- Katiba Rouge Carterhold.
Bakerstreets
"Smelled like incense. Tasted like coffee and cloves. I thought she was the one thing in an ever-falling city that wasn’t yet fallen and the one thing on those mean streets that somehow wasn’t mean. It’s the only time I’ve ever been wrong about both."
-- Vizier Cobbler Bakerstreet.
"...[silence]..."
-- Subviziera Diana Bakerstreet-Underhand.
"She was like a solid 7 out of 10. Kayla, or Kalia, or Talia, or Austin or something."
-- Katib Cody Bakerstreet.
"I plead the Fifth."
-- Katiba Wiggin Bakerstreet.
Underhands
"...[silence]..."
-- Katiba Diana Bakerstreet-Underhand.

Baharats
"We were both young and bold, and both exploring beyond our restricted boundaries. By chance, we met in the middle; two birds from different cages whose escape flights the stars had brought together. Our lifespans inevitably pulled us back apart in time: I would not be old enough to marry for another fourteen years, by which time it was expected she should have at least one litter of her own. Nonetheless, every year on that day I sneak a caged bird from my family’s menagerie and set it free for her."
-- Ex-Subvizier James Baharat.

"I couldn’t possibly without Butterfly’s permission."
-- Beautiful Baharat Guard.
"Ah. Fortunately, the Baharats are, uh, classy enough to keep me at arms’ length from everyone that would try it. Even if that’s just to increase the allure. James… kissed my nose once, if that counts."
-- Martini.
Brasseyes
"Oh, it was Rifi. Not my most noteworthy experience even with him."
-- Katiba Grimoire Brasseyes.
Darktusks
"She wanted it. That’s all I’m saying."
-- Mirze Rifi Darktusk.
Greenskins
"I may not speak of the first, and will not. I would say only little of the second. His name was Joppa. A scholar. Apprentice to a translator of my father’s. We earned my family’s blessing. He too is gone."
-- Vizier Kronk Greenskin.
"It was at my wedding, and it wasn’t my favourite."
-- Subvizier Cassiopeia Stargazer-Greenskin.

Jackalslicers
"My marriage was arranged, to bolster two weakened houses. We went out together a few times before the wedding day. Shared our first kiss on the third of those, at the gate of my father’s estate."
-- Viziera Atkin Jackalslicer.
"I… Cody made Rouge kiss me on a dare once."
-- Katib Fennec Jackalslicer.

"Mama. Make clean. Small."
-- Stubby.
Shajaras
"I had the good fortune to come of age in a social circle with a great many willing and beautiful options. I think I started experimenting in my mid 80s, and progressed rather quickly."
-- Vizier Hali Shajara.
"Oh, I couldn’t - there might be kids present."
-- Viziera Cassilda Shajara.
Brambleites
"‘Twas upon the hand of my lady charge, when I was sworn to her protection, and no more sacred oath could I have sworn her!"
-- Bugsby Cottontail.
"Ew, no! I mean, sorry, I try to stay away from all that sort of stuff. Bunny girls have two modes at this court, and I prefer to stay firmly in the cute category. -- Martini.

"Never in this form - and I don’t intend for that to change."
-- Vulpix.
"…um, what do you want to know? It was nice. I liked it."
-- Warren Furr.
"Toothy. But sweet."
-- Winnie Furr.
Patchwork Empire
"A girl in a tiny camp built in the ruins of a town in the desert far, far away from here, in the form of her boyfriend’s brother, where I knew the boyfriend would see it. He overreacted, hurt her, her father the camp leader exiled the boy, caused a schism. The camp fell to infighting and then fell to the ghouls. But I made sure there were survivors to spread the paranoia and the sickness to the next settlements they found. I lived that way for centuries, maybe millenia, in between summonings, even after the world lit up and the stars went out. But sooner or later, like everything else, I wound up in Palimpsest."
-- Pairaka.
Undergazette
"Awkla and I were childhood sweethearts. Our first was in the greenhouse behind the orphanage schoolhouse. Trickmas, 1291. We were hiding from the head tutor so we could skip the Trickmas services. She had her feathers in red ribbons she’d stolen from the Trickmas decorations."
-- Krona Tailfeather.

-- Lindie Asklepa.

"Hell yeah, man. Alley Jackson was the hottest cat at the orphanage. We were in timeout together after I bit the girl that stole my beanie and he’d been caught smoking catnip. I got free hits from him for like eight months."
-- Tito.
Yvette & her Handmaidens
"First kiss where? I can tell you the story for just about anywhere you care to single out - but not usually for free."
-- Yvette, the Courtesan.
"Electrifying. A power trip and a personal indulgence all at once - like when I used to steal chickens from Jax’s coops and eat them all at once before I could be caught. I couldn’t tell you which lucky fellow that first one was, I’m afraid: When I was thirteen I quickly realised I could have any boy I wanted, and once I’d worked through all the ones I did - and a girl or two just to try it - I doubt I could tell you the order; they mostly blurred together: all save for my dear Artois, the only one I ever went back to, whom I know was far from the first. But I do remember that whoever did it first did it well enough to make it clear this was what I wanted to do with my life."
-- Yvette Vixois.
