Aquatic Elves
Basic Information
Anatomy
Aquatic Elves are typically shorter and more muscular than their land-dwelling kin, with heights ranging from 5'0" to 5'8". Their skin tones range from deep blue to green, often with a slight shimmer reminiscent of fish scales. Hair colors include sea-green, deep blue, and silvery white. They have gills on their necks and slightly webbed fingers and toes. Their eyes are usually blue or green and are adapted for seeing clearly underwater.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Aquatic Elves are primarily pescatarian, consuming a diet rich in fish, seaweed, and other marine life. They can survive on land and eat land-based foods but prefer fresh seafood.
Behaviour
Aquatic Elves are known for their adaptability and resilience. They have a deep reverence for the sea and its creatures, often acting as guardians of marine ecosystems. They tend to be more communal than other elves, living in tight-knit groups for safety and companionship in the vast oceans.
They value harmony with nature, particularly marine environments, and are often wary of land-dwellers who might exploit or pollute the seas. Aquatic Elves are curious about the world above but generally prefer their underwater domains.
Their society is often structured around the ebb and flow of ocean currents and tides. They have a strong oral tradition, passing down history and knowledge through songs and stories.

History
Aquatic Elves, also known as Sea Elves or Alu'quessir, originated from the Sun Elves (Ar'tel'quessir) following the First Elven War. As Sun Elven society established itself near oceans and seas, a subset of their population became increasingly fascinated by the waters that reflected the sun's glow.
These Sun Elves, driven by a thirst for adventure and the allure of the unknown depths, began to explore the coastal waters. They were particularly intrigued by how sunlight interacted with the sea, creating shimmering patterns and illuminating the underwater world.
Legend says that these elves "brought the sun with them in their eyes," allowing them to see in the depths. This poetic description likely refers to a gradual magical adaptation that enhanced their vision underwater, possibly drawing upon their innate connection to solar magic.
As these sun-loving elves spent more time exploring the oceans, they underwent a transformation, both magical and physical. Their bodies adapted to aquatic life, developing gills, webbed fingers and toes, and a natural affinity for swimming. Their skin took on iridescent hues reminiscent of sunlight filtering through water, ranging from golden sheens to deep blues and greens.
This transformation occurred gradually over generations, as more Sun Elves were drawn to the sea and chose to make it their permanent home. They brought with them their love of order, tradition, and magical knowledge, adapting these aspects of Sun Elven culture to their new underwater environment.
Aquatic Elves established magnificent underwater cities, using their solar magic in innovative ways to illuminate the depths and grow coral structures. They developed unique forms of magic that combined their solar affinity with the power of the seas, creating spells that manipulated light, heat, and water.
While maintaining their connection to the sun, Aquatic Elves also embraced the rhythms of the tides and the vast ecosystem of the oceans. They formed bonds with sea creatures, particularly those drawn to light, such as certain species of fish, dolphins, and even some benign deep-sea creatures attracted to their bioluminescent magic.
Their unique perspective, blending solar and aquatic influences, makes them valuable allies in understanding the world's oceans and the magic that flows through them. However, like their Sun Elf ancestors, they can sometimes be perceived as aloof or enigmatic by land-dwelling races unfamiliar with their ways.
