Vault 49

Grew up in Vault 49, which was initially thought to be a control Vault. However, the actual experiment involved the dwellers being told that their G.E.C.K was faulty. This caused distrust between the overseer and the dwellers, and even among the dwellers themselves. Some believed the overseer was telling the truth about the G.E.C.K, while others wanted to see it for themselves. The overseer continuously refused, and this caused a schism in the Vault. In 2129, about half of the dwellers revolted, furious that they could not yet leave. In the midst of the fighting, the GECK, which was actually functional, was destroyed. Disheartened, those that revolted among some others left the Vault. The rest remained and elected a new Overseer, and became increasingly paranoid about leaving their Vault. With no GECK, and no one to return for them, they felt abandoned.
  Over a century later, in 2276, a group of Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel raided the Vault for its pre-war technology. Some dwellers tried to fight back, but most were either subdued or forced to flee into the Wastes. Many dwellers still reside around St Louis, but others have disbursed into other areas of the Midwest.
