The Archivist
The Archivist is in charge of many of the day-to-day activities of the Lakaenum. From acquisition and arrangement to rites and rituals, the Archivist has a hand in it all. One of the most important duties of the Archivist is the management of Lakionma's Tome, the holy book of the goddess. Lakionma's Tome is a massive book and it is said to be where prophecies, messages, and cosmic events are recorded. Only the Archivist and Yldres Worziros of Flamering have access to it and its location is a closely guarded secret. Anyone may request access to the Tome, but it is rare for any request to be fulfilled. There is no room for uncertainty in intent when allowing someone access to it. Rumors abound that anything written in Lakionma's Tome will become reality, and defacing such a precious religious artefact is tantamount to an attack on the goddess herself. Additionally, the information within could be used for malicious purposes, thus necessitating a significant amount of investigation to ensure any granted viewing are safe.
Career
Qualifications
While Archivists are generally ordained by Lakionma, there are some general qualifications that connect all chosen Archivists. First and most importantly is the pursuit of knowledge and boundless curiosity. Time spent in the Lakaenum is important too with all candidates having spent at least fifteen years in service to the Lakaenum. Other qualities that unite chose Archivists are compassion, practicality, and attention to detail.
Payment & Reimbursement
The Archivist is not a paid position within the Lakaenum and all meals and shelter are taken care of in lieu of payment. However, so long as all duties are being consistently met, it is encouraged for Archivists to take on what jobs or commissions they'd like to fund any hobbies or pursuits.
Other Benefits
The Archivist has access to knowledge that no one else does and that which they can know is second only to Yldres of Flamering and Lakionma herself. Additionally, they receive free meals and housing in lieu of traditional payment.
Perception
Purpose
The Archivist serves as both Lakionma's head priesten and the Keeper of the Archives of the Lakaenum. As Lakionma's head priesten, the Archivist is in charge of all rites, ceremonies, and festivals relating to the goddess. As the Keeper of the Archives, the Archivist is in charge of acquisition, care, arrangement, description, and retrieval of records. Any piece of writing, music, art, or other media may be submitted to the Lakaenum and after review by a team of curators it is submitted to the Archivist for final approval.
Social Status
The Archivist is a well-respected and recognizable figure in and around Strigitree. It is generally considered polite to offer them things like a cold, refreshing dish in summer, or a nice, warm scarf in winter. However, it is by no means required and many Archivists will decline the gifts as graciously as they can or insist on some of trade/exchange for the gift. Outside of Strigitree, on the rare occasion that the Archivist of the Lakaenum would venture so far from home, they are not quite so recognizable, but their title still garners respect.
Becoming the Archivist is considered to be a penultimate goal for scholars though it is rarely admitted to. The amount of knowledge that the Archivist has access to as well as access to the legendary tome of Lakaenum makes the position desirable to many. However, the position is also regarded with a certain amount of pity as despite its importance and high regard, the lack of pay and amount of time it demands can take away from their time and ability to study.
