Strigitree
Demographics
The majority of the population is made up of Owlkin, closely followed by elves and gnomes. Humans are the next most populous group within the city. Dwarves are a fairly common sight as well with Wandering Dwarves often coming by to trade and do business. Due to high population density, owlkin hold many of the higher positions though within the Lakaenum efforts are made to ensure a variety of scholars and backgrounds are included.
History
Strigitree was founded shortly after the Acension of Lakionma. Before Lakionma became a goddess, she was a teacher in a lonesome village. When that village was found by an invading demon horde, Lakionma risked everything to draw the demons away from her hiding students. This risk ultimately and tragically ended in her demise. At the site of her death, a menhir appeared memorializing her. At the top was a feather quill with roots extending from the nib, this symbol would be adopted as Strigitree's coat of arms. Below that was the visage of Lakionma engraved upon the stone. In honor of her sacrifice, the surviving villagers decided to rebuild their town around the menhir and become some of her first followers. These days the Lakaenum houses the menhir in a hidden room having been built up around it.
Points of interest
The main point of interest of Strigitree is definitely the Lakaenum. A magnificent building first made of fine birch wood and now slowly being replaced by elegant white rock. The building is surrounded by a large courtyard ensuring it should have room to expand into as the current libraries are slowly filled with archived books and media. These libraries are widely regarded as the most complete collection of knowledge outside of Flamering and no information is too small though duplicates are always rejected leading to misunderstandings about what information is valued. Additionally, within the walls of the Lakaenum is the legendary book known as Lakionma's Tome. Many hope to one day catch a glimpse of it and many requests are submitted to The Archivist asking to view it, though nearly all are rejected.
