Wereraccoon
Aspects: raccoon brain, shapeshifter
Troubles: anxiety disorder, power incontinence
Wereraccoons are a common type of Were. Unlike Werewolves, their transformation is based on their stress level, not the phase of the moon. The more stressed they are, the more animal their appearance is. Since most can manage their stress well enough, they're rarely found out.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Wereraccons have a very fluid form, and their transformation is often unpredictable. Maybe they'll grow raccoon teeth first, maybe they'll grow hair, or hand pads first. They don't always have Tapetum Lucidum, but can develop them at any time. Even when fully raccoon, they still weigh the same as when human, making them absolutely enormous for a raccoon.
Genetics and Reproduction
Wereraccons turn Humans through their bodily fluids, typically through biting or sex. Wereraccoons can also reproduce sexually, although it is rare for them to meet and get along with another member of their species.
Growth Rate & Stages
As a wereraccoon's stress levels increase, they slowly develop more raccoon features. This can take place in a matter of minutes during a sudden panic attack, or over months of accumulating stress. Witnessing their body changing tends to feed into the stress, making it difficult to manage.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Wereraccons are highly omnivorous, and can eat anything a human can.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Wereraccoons are highly introverted, and tend to have a small group of close friends while limiting contact with others.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Wereraccoons are often considered exotic treats by Vampires. They're said to have a 'spicy' flavour.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Wereraccoons can be found all over the world, but seem to be most common in North America, where they originated.
Average Intelligence
Wereraccoons are just as intelligent as humans, but think more like a raccoon, and will have habits like washing food and items. OCD is not uncommon amongst wereraccoons. Wereraccoons prefer the nighttime and like small, enclosed spaces as well as high areas. It isn't uncommon for them to build or live in treehouses to fit these needs. While certainly capable of social behaviour, wereraccons tend to be introverts, and often have trouble talking to new people. Wereraccoons tend to gorge themselves when it starts getting cold, and are at best lethargic during winter. They are capable of hibernating, and will do so if they don't have any pressing responsibilities.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They have either raccoon or human senses, depending on whether their specific sensory organs are human or raccoon.
