Orichalcum

(Oh-ri-kal-cum) Orichalcum is a rare gold-red metal alloy spoken of in ancient writings, considered 2nd in value only to gold. It was used in the temple of Poseidon and Cleito, and has some magical properties.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Orichilicum is a golden metal that casts a red glow when white light is shone on it. It works as both a mana conductor. It also breaks up the spirit element into its constituent 4 elements.  When it comes into contact with Undead tissues, this causes aggravated chemical burns.

Compounds

Orchialum powder can be mixed into vampire mace, or anti-vampire smoke bombs.

Geology & Geography

The exact metals used to make orchiculum have been lost to time. Some think it's a copper/gold alloy, some think it's a copper/brass alloy.

Origin & Source

Orichalcum originates from ancient Greece.

History & Usage

History

Orichilicum was invented in ancient Greece and hailed for its use as a magic conductor, as well as it's unusual effect on light, being golden in color but casting a red glow. The mages who forged it kept its recipe a secret, considering it sacred knowledge of their temple. When the temple and its worshipers were destroyed during the crusades, the knowledge was lost.  Today it is the most expensive mana conductor.

Everyday use

Orichilicum is most commonly used as a mana conductor in artifacts, although the MKA utilizes it for it's anti-necromantic properties.

Hazards

Shorts in orichilicum wires can interfere with living beings, due to it's high ability to conduct life mana.  This can be potentially deadly, if an orichilicum wire is run between a living being and a sufficently large gemstone.  Orichilicum also causes chemical burns to Undead tissues exposed to it.

Reusability & Recycling

Orichilicum is easy to recycle, and can be recycled infinitely.
