The hateful blood
A strange sentient organic substance that is able to grow like a fungus or plant. When coming into contact with creatures or bones it begins to change. Lurching across it's target it sinks thin tendrils into the flesh, trying to anchor itself onto the bones of the creature. It attacks creatures seemingly not for it's flesh but only for it's bones.
Once anchored to the bones of a creature or just a skeleton it will stretch across it, creating tendon and muscle like masses in order to animate the form. It usually pools a larger portion of it's mass into cavities like rib cages and skulls, giving it a place to store and protect extra mass. Tendril like storks form from the body that contain sensory equipment allowing them to see, hear and smell. The result is a skeleton or corpse covered in horrible crimson masses and tendrils controlling the shambling form.
Once in this stage they will often just stay laying on the ground growing in it's plant like way spreading across the immediate vicinity until a living creature passes by. At which point they will attempt to attack the creature in order to separate a part of it's mass to spawn another one of the shambling blood husks.
The hateful blood is named as such not because it appears like blood but because it actually is the blood of the ancient and terrible "hateful weapon" still living on even after it's death an eon ago.
