Chaotic beasts and other forms

Chaotic beasts are twisted abominations of flesh created when a living creature contracts the chaotic plague. They vary a lot as is the nature of chaos, often forming organic weaponry like bony protrusions and building muscle mass. The average chaotic beast will remain relatively the same size of the creature they formed from, but a magically inclined being will give them more to work with as the chaotic plague is a magic based disease. From a victim with high magical potential the chaotic beast that forms can magically grow extra mass but sometimes will form magic weaponry instead.
Some chaotic beasts retain a form that looks like it could be a regular beast retain it's bilateral symmetry and most of it's facial features. Some however will twist into grotesque masses of flesh, teeth and eyes with no concern for retaining some level of creature like anatomy. This usually depends upon how they where infected, smaller amounts of the infection cause a slower transformation which results in the more creature looking forms. If a victim is flooded with huge doses of chaotic plague the transformation will be so intense that it will warp the body beyond all recognition.
Low level chaotic beasts are formed from creatures with low magical ability and more powerful forms spawn from high magic entities. Both of these loose most of their higher brain functions turning into mindless beasts. However there are even more edge cases when it comes to the chaotic plague.
Chaotic Knights
If a very small amount of chaotic plague infects something it will usually be able to fight it off and remain unchanged. However if a sapient being is infected and the transformation is particularly slow but still somehow not able to be fought off it can result in what is referred to as a chaotic knight. These forms don't change quite as drastically, retaining their regular form, maybe changing colouring and growing some extra claws, horns or biological armour. They also retain much of their higher brain functions, although they are definitively not the same being as before. Chaotic knights will make use of tactics and weaponry, often still capable of speech and sometimes able to command a small group of chaotic beasts.
Chaotic Lords
There are also what are known as Chaotic lords. The method of their creation is unknown as it is exceedingly rare and has never been witnessed by anyone. It's thought it may be very similar to the creation of chaotic knights as they share many similarities, possibly being the same but with a highly magically potent individual. Chaotic lords are vastly more powerful than chaotic knights they boast full control over chaotic energy, able to command armies of chaotic beasts, turn sapient beings into chaotic knights at will, often able to use magic and empower their bodies with chaotic energy. They are also incredibly difficult to kill permanently, even when their bodies are torn apart and destroyed they are able to reform a new body from pure chaotic energy. This process may take days if they didn't use up too much power before their bodies where destroyed, But may take years or decades for their minds to properly reform in the swirling nebula of chaotic energy before they can reform their bodies if their defeat was particularly brutal. They are able to be permanently killed by use of purifying energy but it must destroy every trace of chaotic energy expelling from their body which is easier said than done.
Chaotic Plague Survivors
It's also possible a survivor of the chaotic plague may not come out completely unchanged. In the case of Liam Royguard his body was very slightly warped physically but magically his developed a kind of adaption to chaotic energy, his body now able to absorb chaotic energy, growing into a hulking form with no effect to his mental faculties and reverting to his regular form after the energy has dissipated. This particular adaption is surprisingly beneficial but was only possible to his powerful bloodline and an incredible amount of willpower, somehow managing to hold out both physically and mentally for 3 days being flooded with chaotic energy. There have been other cases of survivors gaining physiological resistance to chaotic energy and even some being able to somewhat manipulate the energy itself. It's believed this physiological immunity to chaotic energy is a later stage effect of chaotic transformation which also explains why chaotic beasts don't continue to transform after the initial transformation.
