Manek

Lord/Commander

Let me tell you a tale tonight from a time when war was waging all over this land. There was hardly any peace to be found anywhere in that time and the people lived in fear. For it was the time of the conquerer and tyrant Naros who conquered and destroyed all who dared stand against him. That was of course, until one man - yes you heard me right, it was one single man that put an end to that tyranny. So lisen up close now little ones: As the tale goes, the great warhero and commander Manek was the youngest son of the regent of a proud city state. When the city was taken by the tyrant Naros, his parents and brothers where all killed. Only he and his sister where able to escape.
Growing up on the streets, the held each other alive. And when Manek was recruited to serve in the Narmidian legion his sister would always follow the host secretly when they went abroad until she was discovered tending her brothers wounds one night. But as Manek had already risen high in Naros´ esteem, she was allowed to stay to tend to all the wounded. It is said that many of the men tried to take her by force and also that Manek hew of the hands of all that dared to attempt this.
With every fight Manek became closer and more trusted to Naros, until he was one of his closest advisors. But never had Manek forgotten the pain that Naros had caused him and countless others. And all his was just part of his secret plan. For when he was fully trusted by the tyrant that had murdered his parents, he slew him one night when the two where holding counsil together.
But he would not even then steal away into the shadow of the night. Instead he walked out of the tent and held up the tyrant´s head, proclaiming the conquering of cities and the killing of innocent ended. So terrible was his voice and his face against the lit fires that the personal guard of Naros fled into the night, never to return.

Now Malek turned from the battlefield with his sister at his side and such men that would follow behind him. They would fight for those wou could not defend themselves for many decades until they dissapeared. Some say they still do so in secret. But then, that is al just a tale... Who could ever know the full truth about it?

Personal history

The truth about the past of Malek has ever been known to only a handfull of people. The lies and half truths about his childhood where the ground on which his succes was built and therefore be kept up to the bitter end.

But the truth is - for all those that whish to hear it - that Manek was never born into nobility. He was the son of a handmaiden. When the attack came he had just been playing with Anthia, the daughter of the lord of the city, as he had done often for many years now. His mother fetched them both and together with the lords wife and the other court ladies the two children stayed in the castle for the time of the siege.
When the gates fell the lords wife knew that she was to loose all that she held dear. Her sons where all of a fighting age and would not leave their fathers side. Only left to save her one daughter, she took her to a secret passageway out of the city. But the girl was so scared she would not let go of oher friend Malek, nor would he let go of her. Thus they both escaped.

Running as far and as fast from the burning city that used to be their home, they came hungry and tired to the gates of another city and entered secretly as the guards would not let them enter. They made their way to the city court where Anthia declared who she was. While the lord there was to scared of Naros to take her in, his wife counselled hin to have mercy on the child and simply give her another name. But neither she nor her lord would have Manek at the court. But neither would Anthia be seperated from her friend, seeing that he was even younger than herself and would not survive in the streets alone. So Anthia left the court and the offer for her own safety to safe her friend. Together they managed to survived on the streets. Manek quickly became a clever thief, using his young age and innocent face to his advantage. He also learned to fight and defended Anthia against all that would dare touch her.

Some years later Naros came to the city to recrui new soldiers. He also offered the boys that lived on the street to take them and train them as warriors. If they where to fight for him they would get a bed and warm meals. Manek, plotting childish revenge against the one that destroey his home and killed his family went with Naros to kill him in his sleep. But already Anthia and him had become more than just friends and she could not bear loosing him so she followed them secretly.
Manek´s plan however did not work out quite as fast as he had imagined with his child´s mind. But beeing strong of will and long of endurance he stayed close to Naros, fighting for him for years, coming ever closer to him. And when the time was ripe he cut Naros´ head of without a moments hesitation.

His deeds became legend and many gatherd to follow him as their leader. Thus, instead of finding peace, he led his men for many years, to fight the battles for those who where to few or to weak to fight them for themselves. And all that time they kept up the lie about Anthia and him beeing sibling. For all now believed him to be nobility and as such even other lords and regents respected him. But also, the secret protected their love. For many attempted to gain Anthias love and not all accepted her rejection. But as her brother he could aways defend her honor without raising too much suspicion.

Yet when the time came that Anthia fell pregnant the could no longer hide their love. So instead they finally left the battlefield, leaving the warriors with Manek´s most trusted friend and counsellor as new commander.
