Renard

Story Points

  • Was a friend of Vrae's brother Viktor, was slightly younger and still in training when Vrae starting training, and they also became friends.
  • Was always a bit more aggressive and thirsty for adventure, and did not understand why the mighty of Eldathir hid
  • Along with Viktor, would often sneak out of Eldathir to explore the outside world.
  • On one of these trips they were separated and Renard encountered a party of bandits, (not knowing they had been hired by members of the Hunted to find Eldathir), who recognized a child of Eldathir, and one of Eldath's Aasimar
  • The Bandits befriended the boy, choosing a long term tactic to get him to reveal the location of the city. They convinced Renard that they were part of a nomadic tribe of the Plateaus, twisting his mind with stories of heroic journeys, masterful hunts, feats of bravery, none of which he would find in Eldathir
  • Little did Renard know that meeting the Bandits brought him to the attention of the Hunted and Malar, and his new ally Cthulhu. While they could not steal the location of Eldathir from his mind, his connection to the arcane through his Aasimar transformation left his sleeping mind vulnerable to Cthulhu's machinations, and he dreamed nightly of life beyond Eldathir with his new friends, the Great Old One sewing seeds of doubt about the motives of Eldathir's elders keeping it hidden when the world outside could clearly use their protection, as had been shown when Fiends were crossing into Oroccid 100 years ago and Eldathir smote them in the mountains
  • Renard knew Viktor would never leave Eldathir, but he thought Vrae was a bit more independent, and could maybe be persuaded to join him on an adventure with his new friends, a quest to prove that the outside world could use the help of two Aasimar Champions.
  • He led the Bandits into the city, and brought them to Vrae in the Cathedral, hoping they could help him convince her. She instantly knew something was wrong, knowing the Bandits were not of Eldathir.
  • Renard tried to talk her down, and she realized Renard had betrayed the city by leading outsiders here. In shock and angry, Vrae brandished her weapon, unsure of what to do next. The Bandits told Renard that she could not be reasoned with, and would kill them to protect the secrets of the city, convincing him that the city done so for millennia, training their Aasimar warriors to be executioners to maintain their security.
  • His mind and will already weakened by Cthulhu's machinations, Renard believed their lies, accusing Vrae of knowing this as her parents were on the council. The Bandits shouted that Renard must help them take down Vrae so they could escape the city alive.
  • Renard was about to agree with them, and Vrae could see it. Her good friend was about to betray everything they were, and she raged, her superior skills killing the bandits and mortally wounding Renard.
  • Vrae was found among the bodies, and reported all to the Council. To protect Renard's family, they kept his part in the attack a secret, and proceeded to exile Vrae for her brutal actions, erasing the city's location from her mind in the secret Mind Palace installation, as well as the actions of Renard, as they knew if she ever returned she would inevitably speak of Renard's misdeeds, and they did not want to embarrass his family, as well as have the population learn that TWO of their noble Aasimar had been corrupted that day. They also wanted her story to match that of Renard in case they ran into each other in the outside world.
  • Renard however, was not dead. They healed him as best they could and attempted to alter his memory as well in the Mind Palace, erasing the city location from his mind, and changing his memories of events to match what they put in Vrae's head.
  • When Renard awoke outside the city, it's location was lost, but memories of what occurred were not. His mind had already been invaded by Cthulhu, who was able to protect those memories
  • Knowing that they were messing with minds, Renard was enraged, fueled by the Great Old One's influence, and swore vengeance on Eldathir. Now a fallen Aasimar, he made it his quest to find Eldathir and destroy the Mind Palace, and punish the council by any means necessary. And if he found Vrae, who had betrayed him and mortally wounded him, he would make her suffer as well.
One of the male Aasimar's of Eldathir, who Vrae believes was killed when bandits attacked them as they guarded the holy caraffe in the Cathedral to Eldathir. Or so she thought...
