Jas Stuff - Vrae Cherchuse

BACKSTORY

The first in her immediate family that was revealed to be an Aasimar, she is also the first fallen ever in her line. She comes from a noble family whose genealogy traces back to the first Aasimars in Oroccid. She is the second oldest of 5. Viktor, her older human brother of 3 years is a mighty Knight and happily married. Her younger sister by 5 years, Valory the other Aasimar, is a cleric. And her two younger twin human brothers by 12 years, Valiant and Valdin are aspiring to be artificers. Apparently the Aasimar only appears in the women of her family as the other Aasimar is her grandmother, Vaelyn the Protectress. The deity her family and people worship is Eldath, Goddess of Peace, who is a pacifist.

Her parents who are also on the city's council, Viktorya and Vhon, are honest good people who only want the best for their children. Growing up, Vrae was always a rebel and wanted to live a life of adventure but also wanted to follow in her brother's footsteps. She was very close with her brother, who taught her everything she knows to become a knight. She would sneak out when she was younger to see him train with his friends. Her Aasimar traits manifested at 13 and so did her training finally begin to become the next paladin Protector of Eldathir the hidden waterfall city where she resides.

Thousands of years ago her people suffered by the hand of Malar, the savage primordial deity who hunted and ate them in sacrifice to his cruel ways. As they were helpless because they were mainly a peaceful water people, the goddess Eldath took pity and imbued powers to some of the women in the tribe to help them flee. They founded the waterfall city and with powerful magic, they hid the city from Malar's preyful eyes. The city's magic is strengthened by the huge waterfall that falls through the middle of the city as the city is built from the steepest point to the bottom encompassing the waterfall. However, one would think that the royals stay at the top, in fact the Queen of the Eldath has her lodgings built into a cave hidden behind the magnificent base of the waterfall. As the sun rises it sheds light at the base of the waterfall then heads over to the top as it descends to the other side of Tufunes. They have stayed hidden for almost a millennia. However, with the portal circles opening, Malar's watchful eye was very close to finding this hidden city and they have noticed that within the hundred years since these openings, more of his minions have come very close to finding their safe haven. Now more then ever, it was imperative for Vrae to learn the ancient ways of her people to continue protecting them from Malar's malice.

During her training she became very close to one of her brother's friends, Renard. They would often have the same assignment, guarding Eldathir's holy relic, an ancient water carafe that was a personal item of Eldath and is said to have healing properties. One day when both her and Renard were guarding the holy relic, they were ambushed and Renard was mortally wounded. In a fit of rage, anger, despair, and all the negative emotions that are opposite of Eldath's teachings, Vrae unleashed unimaginable power and brutally killed the assailants. At that point, she became fallen and eternally banished from Eldathir for not upholding Eldath's only rule. Peace at all costs. Eldathir's council decided that the way in which she slaughtered the thieves were brutal and were more in line with the ways of Malar. They removed the city's location from her mind and she awoke thousands of miles away with only the image of the beautiful city and all her loved ones as a distant vivid memory. Since the fall, her appearance had changed but she doesn't remember what she used to look like. Only that her reflection is an unwelcome stranger and a reminder of her misgivings.

Vrae has been conflicted ever since...for 7 years. Brooding over the loss of her friend and status in her beloved city. She found out that this band of thieves had made their way stealing valuable relics and killing anyone who got in their way. She doesn't feel sorry for what she did only sorry she could not save her friend. Seeking truth and justice for those who are unable to protect themselves and for those that lay victim to others' cruel cause. She is lost among her peers, trying to find redemption but not knowing how. She wants to find balance with truth. Vrae feels that her city is in danger for the thieves were the first in a millennia to find and infiltrate what she thought was an impenetrable fortress. How did her grandmother, the great Protectress, not know they were coming? She wants to get home but does not now how..

I met Mak-Ti in the Nalied desert. I helped him kill a giant lizard. Saw the lizard and saved him.

OTHER

Vaelyn, her great grandmother, The Great Protectress. She feels like she is an ally but she did not vouch for her during the banishment. She also hasn't even spoken to her since then. A quiet sentinel watching the sentence of Vrae's fate unfold.

Her mother, Viktorya, gave her a present on her 30th birthday. A helmet of sorts, made out of a deer's skull and antlers with feathers streaming down the side.

APPEARANCE

Tall but slender for being an Aasimar. She has raven black hair that is partially braided atop her head. She wears a silver deer skull atop her head with antlers that has feathers streaming down the side. Her hair is interwoven with the thread that holds the feathers securing the helmet to her head. Pale brown skin. Her eyes are onyx black. With striking features she is quite beautiful yet has a sadness about her. Her lips are black with an intricate tribal-like tattoo dripping from her lips to her chin. She dons sleek Knight armor but it doesn't shine with radiant glory but it's muted metal acts as a backdrop to her sad yet haunting visage.

She was given La Couronne de Cerf (The Stag Crown) from Una by her mother on her 30th birthday. It was one of her mother's prized possessions as it granted the wearer abilities. It has been passed down to the druids in her family, so Vrae was unsure why her mother would gift her such an item. A note included, "Give it time, be patient..may your heart guide you back to us my daughter." Since she's put it on, she's able to understand and speak to deer. She finds it peculiar that this is the only thing it does but she trusts her mother and wearing it feels like Vrae is closer to her.

ORGANIZATIONS

  • Knights of Eldathir, Order of Peace

ALLIES

  • Eldathyan people (or so she hopes and believes)
  • Renard (she believes is deceased) - Vrae wonders if she was in love with Renard
  • Her family whom she has some contact with through retainers that occasionally visit her and update her on the goings on of Eldathir. They will never tell her where the city is, however, bc that would mean banishment for her family. She has a sending stone that she uses to communicate with them. One of the below will reach out every 4 months.

Retainers

  1. Una - her mother's attendant and confidant. she is a 45 yo human female and low level cleric for Eldath. she reached out once during Vrae's birthday, February 13th...giving her a special item that Vrae keeps with her at all times.
  2. Benoit - the majordomo for their family. he was the first one to reach out since the fall. a portly 50 yo male, he told her what happened and filled in the blanks for the memories that were taken away. she's only seen him that one time.
  3. Philippe (French accent like Vrae's) - the swift messenger who is the one that Vrae sees the most. he is a 23 yo human male, who has grown up with her family since he was a babe. He adores their family and is seen like a little brother.
  4. CURRENTLY - all are SUPER concerned that Vrae is a wereraven! Philippe has tasked Benoit with getting the Anti-dote for Lycanthropy Blood-of-the-lycanthrope-antidote(they know it needs to be on the full moon while she is fully transformed, brought small rope to bind her). ALSO, they are all aware that there have been rumors of Renard being seen at the Stosan Academy, as it has concerned the city as there might be an Arcanist at the academy capable of helping push through the modify memory that removed his knowledge of where Eldathir is (but those in charge are confident enough in the Mind Palace that they are not taking action)NOTE - they are ALL aware that RENARD betrayed Eldathir, and that the city showed him MERCY by merely wiping his mind, as Vrae's brutal attack on him was against their ways. Philippe and the others think the city may have been too hard on Vrae and not hard enough on Renard though. (they only know they through the rumor mill and eavesdropping on important conversations though)
