Orrery of the Wanderer - story plot

HISTORY

  • For millennia was kept as a Vedalken treasure in Lumengrad after they found and combined the various components following Lottie's scattereing of them across the worlds. The Vedalken were careful to only use the artifact at utmost need, and only appointed the most trusted and wise mages to be it's keeper, little realizing the power of the Orrery was enough to corrupt even the most moral of personages.
  • Judai'Arul was the Keeper of the Orrery of the Wanderer in Lumengrad, which he used to banish Mak'Ti to Domunz. Due to his corruption by the Orrery and connection to the planes, felt Cthulhu calling out to him and offering him power and the throne of Lumengrad if he joined the Cabal. In time his treachery was found out when King Yorik'il wanted to check on Mak'Ti, and Judai'aruk fled Lumengrad. In his haste to exit quickly, he used the Orrery to travel to a different plane, and it seemed to convulse, sending him across the Astral Sea and breaking the Orrery in 7 components (including the main piece). Knowing that the Orrery would be essential to Cthulhu's resurrection, Judai'Aruk has begun hunting down all the components scattered across the multi-verse, unaware that many pieces followed along its last known path, to the world of Terus and its connected planes (Elemental Planes, Limbo).
  • Judai'Aruk is not sure what caused the malfunction, little realizing the Orrery had its own designs (as well as others who wished to use it) and had been trapped on Lumengrad for a long time
  • Based on a tip from an agent of Yan-C Bin, Judai’aruk learns of the Dimensional Loop being in the Elemental Plane of Air with the Great Caliph. He contacts their agent in the Citadel of Ice and Steel, an elite agent of the Teeth of the Wind (special force called Fangs) named Captain T'Nin (Reggie Stuff - T'nin Jabari ), who agrees to procure the Dimensional Loop, not knowing what it was or its value, as the Caliph only saw it as a trinket.
  • T'Nin steals the Dimensional Loop, realizing very quickly he can attune to it, and uses its powers to stealthily and quickly escape without being seen. Realizing the Loop is an extremely powerful item and worth far more than Judai’aruk was offering, T'nin crosses the portal to Oroccid and hides the Dimensional Loop by burying it beneath ELEMENTAL AIR NODE in CLOUDSCAPE Air Genasi Kingdom - CLOUDSCAPE , hoping the power of the node will block any magic trying to find it.
  • Upon his return, T'nin in confronted by Win'ild, his second-in-command, as he has learned about T'Nin being a traitor, and his dealings with the servants of Yan-C Bin and has been stealing from the Citadel, and wants an explanation (really wants T'Nin to say it is not true). When T'Nin does not deny it, Win'ild in a fit of sorrowful passion, stabs T'Nin with his scimitar and throws him through the portal back into Oroccid, thinking him dead. Win'ild tries to honor the good memory of his captain and friend by telling no one what he knew, and even taking care of T'nin's family, in time falling in love with one of his wives.
  • Judai’aruk is infuriated when T'Nin does not know show up to their meeting, but confused when he hears news of the Dimensional Loop being stolen from the Caliph. He searches for news on T'Nin and hears that he was killed in combat defending the citadel, and is even more confused and angered, fearing the device lost, especially as he can no longer sense it in the Elemental Plane of Air. However, he knows if he can find the other pieces, together they might be able to help him find the lost Dimensional Loop.

THE SECOND GENASI WAR

  • Judai’aruk has a meeting with the Great Caliph Husam al-Balil ben Nafhat al-Yugayyim, claiming to have information on the lost Dimensional Loop. He explains he once held the artifact, and expresses his sorrow that the Caliph lost such a momentous item that could have brought him so much wealth and power. Enraged, the Caliph demands to know what else Judai’aruk knows, calling in a mage to activate the Zone of Truth. Judai’aruk (pretending to be under duress) says that he knows an Air Genasi stole it from the Caliph, one not in the Elemental Plane of Air, alluding to (but not lying) the fact that it was an Air Genasi from Oroccid. Claims to know this because he was searching for the Loop him, and had hoped to barter with the Caliph. The Caliph dismisses Judai’aruk, who continues his search elsewhere, hoping the Caliph and his forces will hunt down the Loop if indeed it is somewhere on Oroccid as he suspects.
  • The Caliph demands the leader of Cloudscape, Erin Huricus I  return the lost dimension loop, as he has been told an Air Genasi stole the item from him. He informs her that he has let her "Kingdom" stand for over 100 years, but if he does not get the Dimensional Loop back, he will take Cloudscape, making it part of his Empire.
  • Fearful, Erin Huricus hunts for any sign of the Dimensional Loop in Cloudscape, but does not believe her people are truly stupid enough to steal from and piss off the Caliph, she suspects it was a genasi from one of the other Kingdoms pretending to be an Air Genasi. She contacts the other Genasi rules and asks for aid in finding the item, and they reluctantly agree to help, though all are suspicious due to their past with Cloudscape.
  • As the Genasi Kingdoms search for the Loop, word gets back to the Marid, Dao and Efreeti of the search for the artifact, and all are unnerved, not realizing the Caliph also recently found one of these artifacts. Suspicions are high that it is all a ploy by Cloudscape or the Caliph to bring their own artifacts to light (the Other pieces of the Orrery), and they tell their respective Genasi Kingdom in Oroccid to give nothing, no information to Erin Huricus, suspecting some kind of trap, even as they begin their own search for more artifacts, wondering if the other Elemental Plane leaders also hold artifacts.
  • And then King Alphanis is assassinated, and the already suspicious nations grow even tenser, the espionage games and search for the Loop and other artifacts intensifying.
  • With the Caliph threatening invasion if action is not taken, Erin Huricus is left without options, forging a secret alliance with Fugore (by informing them of the threat of the Caliph's invasion)(their old ally) and invading Twin Falls and Warrenstone to begin the search of those cities, not wanting to hit Genasi Kingdoms first
  • Oreton and Surfton make a tentative alliance and fight back, the war is on. Independent Oroccid cities try to stay out of it, unless they are directly attacked or being held by one of the factions.
