Typhoon Initiative

Typhoon Initiative was created after mankind found the stars to be within their grasp. It is the merger of several old Earth entities: the Mafia, the Hong Kong Triads, and some older entities such as the so-called Illuminati. Old money and unscrupulous business practices gave it tremendous power, but it kept its existence under wraps until the collapse of the last true Earth government. Typhoon Initiative at that time was masquerading as a simple trading fleet, shuttling supplies from ship to ship and inner planets to outer planets- but in reality was operating secret drug farms and distribution channels. The corporation was the first to suggest to suggest a global hostile takeover to the other corporations, deftly making deals to keep itself alive in the feeding frenzy that soon followed.   In the modern era, Typhoon Initiative is as strong as ever. It has maintained its drug routes and farms- after all, they make the rules, and their drugs are now mostly legal. Typhoon Initiative has also begun dabbling in sex slavery, abducting candidates and putting them through a strict regimen to make the finest slave-courtesans in the fleet. Legalization of drugs and sex slavery has actually affected their bottom line, sending them plummeting down the corporate rankings. Only an idiot thinks this makes them weak. They have been investing. Their strength has always been their trading fleets. Typhoon Initiative fleets are the best operated, maintained, and supplied fleets in the New Economic Block, and they are constantly trading for new technology. Their crowning achievement is the Corporate Flagship Chung Kuo, quite possibly the most powerful vessel in existence- three times the tonnage and armament of the next largest flagship in space.   Typhoon Initiative corporate culture puts a heavy emphasis on honoring contracts by both letter and soul. Failure is tolerated, as too much can go wrong in the chaotic galaxy, but repeated failure can lead to... disappointingly short careers. Sampling of the merchandise is strongly frowned upon, and is strictly policed by their corporate officers, the Empty Cups. GLAs are treated pragmatically: they are too useful not to hire, but their hiring upsets other corporate boards, so they typically end up in middle to lower level positions.
