The Mevanian-Florian War

In the leadup to the conflict, Mevania began conducting military exercises as well as mustering bands of foreign mercenaries, notably Dwarves of Clan Waraxe, goliaths from Novaya and even a company of scouts from Alamani.   In response, Floria issued raising notices to its levies roster to supplement its standing army. There was some resistance to the call up, with roughly half of the Florian levy force failing to report for duty before the commencement of hostilities.

Antonio Alneto at The Battle of the Florenth Gap   During Rising Sun 201IE engagements were limited mostly to skirmishes in the farmland stretching between the two cities. The Mevanian Main Force under the command of Praetor Lucius Seneca sought to decisively engage and destroy the Florian Forces in a pitched battle. Meanwhile, Floria minimised large scale engagements with the Mevanians, sallying out only in small bands to skirmish with and harass the advancing Mevanian Force.   On the Fourth of Alerian Lucius managed to draw the Florian Army into a battle, with a force under the direct command of Antonio Alneto occupying the Florenth Gap. Antonio Alneto, confident in the strategic advantage provided by the Florenth Gap, organized a defensive perimeter utilising the professional soldiers drawn from noble retinues at its core, supported by the levy militia in reserve. The Floria'n defenders leveraged the narrow terrain, creating a chokepoint that hindered Mevanian maneuvers.   Despite initial successes in breaching the first layers of the Florian lines, the Mevanians faced stiff resistance in the confined space of the gap. Ultimately, the Mevanian forces were unable to secure a decisive victory, suffering significant casualties. The Florians, despite achieving a tactical victory, also sustained heavy casualties.   As the war progressed into the Autumn of 201IE, both city-states engaged in a skirmishes and smaller engagements reminiscent of the early days of the war, aimed at slowly degrading their opponents manpower pool and economy.   Alyssa Alneto Meets with Mevanian Diplomats   By Firelight, the Florians reintiated diplomatic efforts under the personal supervision of Lady Alyssa Alneto. During the Winter of 201, there were minimal engagements between the two forces as negotiations continued.
