Structure
The Shield Sisters are composed of five companies, approximately 100 strong each. Each company elect their commander from within their ranks. Shield Sister company's generally divide themselves into smaller cohorts of 20 sisters. The companies act independently from each other for the most part and have on occasion come into conflict with one another when contracted by rival warring parties.
Tactics
In conventional pitched battles, Shield Sister Company's will generally field three cohorts in a line, forming a shield wall, with two cohorts behind in reserve, ready to reinforce any breaches in the line. The cohort typically deploys in two ranks of 10 Shield Sisters. Often some sisters in the second rank will be equipped with a longbow as well as handaxes and are known as sharpshooters. They are lifted by their fellow Shield Sisters so they can observe over the shield wall and target valuable enemy combatants.
More typically in recent times, with the bulk of combat in Nordur being smaller skirmish engagements, Shield Sister Company's will split into its cohorts to cover a greater area, and to patrol and engage their enemies.
Training
When not contracted on an assignment, Shield Sister companies will drill twice daily as cohorts, practicing both with their weapons and unarmed combat in the form of Glima. New members of a Shield Sister company will generally be paired with a more experienced sister who mentors them until they have gained a sufficient level of experience so that they may themselves take a new warrior under their wing.
