Shopping - Tygrar
Below are several of the shops of possible interest to adventurers in Tygrar. Items marked with an asterisk are restricted, and require proof of trustworthiness of some kind.
Taxes in Tygrar are low; items typically only have a 5% markup from the listed price, unless illicitly sourced or exceptionally rare. Scrolls, potions, and religious items are exempt from this tax; enlisted members of the Torch of Tygrar (with proof of rank) are exempt from the tax when buying weapons and armor.
Since Tygrar lacks a centralized market, shops and their items are listed by district.
Antiquities District
Relevant shops in the Antiquities District largely deal in magical scrolls and various arcane oddities.Wanderer's Waypoint
A trio of traders—two Orokhim, one Human, and all three named René—run a small outpost adorned with flashy signs in multiple languages, advertising necessary goods for well-appointed adventurers. All are polished to a gleam.Blomstedt's Wands
Near a quiet side street, an ancient Halfling named Herbert Blomstedt sells a variety of wands and similar arcane items from a spare, outdated-looking shop. All are crafted according to the techniques of the old Dreibach mages; some appear to be genuine antiques.4th and Fernglen
Magical jewelers are largely clustered near the corner of 4th St. and Fernglen Ave., on the edge of a cluster of spacious houses with wrought-iron balconies. The jewelry is a mix of high Elven stock made in the Ironbound District and other styles likely sourced from the trade routes to the east. The chart below lists items as they appear in official sources, but many are sold in different styles and matching collections: earring-and-necklace sets, delicate circlets, stacks of bangles, and even cufflinks.Rahvusconclav Arcanum
The head of Tygrar's primary mage tower is Luisa Milarkhos, a middle-aged Nuél-orokh Abjurer who briefly served as a shieldmaiden for the Torch. The assistant mages and scribes wear insignia of various animals on their roles, and younger mages seem extremely deferential to older ones.Telos's Tricks
Telos's Tricks is popular among bards and entertainers, particularly during the town's various theater festivals. It is run by human twins Tanya and Trixie Telos, a singer and an acrobat who both dress in colorful, flowing clothes. They are more willing to sell enchantment spell scrolls than others, but they keep strict ledgers of who purchases them in case of misuse.Others
Some dealers in the Antiquities District take advantage of the confluence of scholars and traders around the Rahvusarchiv Dunzhanim to intercept treasure hunters and purchase particularly valuable or unique artifacts for themselves, or to sell hopeful adventurers unique items for high prices. These dealers are infamous in certain circles, but often difficult to find."I have no idea what you're talking about. I am a simple racehorse owner, rodeo sponsor, and private antiques collector. My collection is sentimental, trivial, and not for sale. Do not return without a warrant. Good day." —Oppleby Oppenheimer, alleged owner and proprietor of Oppleby's Oddities
Bunk District
Goods sold in the Bunk District are geared towards enlisted members of the Torch who want to augment their standard-issue equipment, as well as to other martially-inclined adventurers and allies of the Torch.Tygrar City Armory
First Lieutenant Bořek, the armory manager on duty, runs the official city armory surprisingly efficiently, given the bustle of the place as the patrols roll in. He's willing to reallocate some basic supplies in exchange for a donation he can bring to the Monument of the Torch, if you happen to be in need.Commissioned Armory
Upgraded arms, well-made but basic, are available for low prices in the central armory for commissioned officers, who are provided with standard-issue nonmagical gear but expected to purchase any magical items themselves. Friends and allies of the Torch may be allowed to purchase on a case-by-case basis, albeit usually with at least a 15% markup.Torch Tower Arcanum
The Archmage of the Torch's Wizard tower is Evgeny Taiakhos, an unusually thin nuél-orokh who sports a two-star general's medallion and an archmage ring alongside a few other pieces of (likely magical) jewelry. His assistant is a Gnome named Peppercorn who wears winged boots to navigate the orokhim-scale space. The war mages of the Torch are largely known as skilled abjurers, though their offensive magic is also strong. Their attunement with the terrain surrounding Tygrar is stronger than that of most wizards, enhancing the skirmisher fighting style that the cavalry of the Torch of Tygrar is known for. Strict scrutiny is applied to all potential customers, who must be proven allies of the Torch to enter the shop at all, let alone purchase scrolls there. Even stricter scrutiny is applied to those who wish to purchase scrolls for any of Evgeny's proprietary spells.Explorers' Commissary
In addition to basic exploration and dungeoneering equipment, the following magic items are typically kept in stock here. Most of the shop staff are young orokhim, many with crutches, casts, or other visible injuries—from what you can gather from their conversation, commissary duty seems to be a low-impact alternative to their conscripted duties, offered while they recover.Temple of Saint Reshvaun
The largest Promethean temple in Tygrar offers a greater selection of magical boons and items than the smaller chapels and shrines that dot the city. These items are not taxed. (9 - spell level)*6% chance that any other spell on the Cleric or Paladin spell list may be available on request.Ironbound District
Church of the Solar Forge
The central Brigidan cathedral offers a variety of holy magical items, which are not taxed. There is an additional (9 - spell level)*6% chance that any other spell on the cleric or Artificer spell list may be available on request.Blacksmiths of the Solar Forge
There are a wide variety of skilled elven blacksmiths in the Ironbound District trained in the Magic Weapon Enhancement traditions passed down by the adherents of the Church of the Solar Forge. These smithies tend to be extremely crowded and in high demand, particularly when many members of the Torch's infantry have returned from their patrols. The table below is an example of the typical variety of weaponry found across the Ironbound District in a day of searching. With luck and effort (or by special commission), one may find additional types of items or enchantments, even on weapons less commonly favored within Tygrar.Common Weaponry
Hwatal. The most favored type of polearm among Tygran warriors of all kinds, the hwatal consists of a thin, curved blade that can be bolted onto shafts of varying lengths to accommodate warriors of extremely varying heights with the same well-crafted and often enchanted blade. The connection is almost always sturdy enough to stand up in battle when regularly inspected; still, shafts are designed to be used alone in case of emergency. (Properties of a glaive. On a natural 1, any fumble table option that includes "drop weapon" separates the blade and shaft by the noted distance, and the staff functions as a nonmagical quarterstaff until the blade is reattached as an action.) Dovry. These three-pointed spears are thought to have been developed in ancient military formations of Dovria, hence their name. Smiths traditionally cut the staff to the buyer's height and fighting style preference at point of purchase. The spike on the reverse end is used to plant the weapon securely into the ground to free one's hands. (Properties of a spear or pike. Attacks with the reverse end, as per the Polearm Master feat, deal 1d4 piercing damage one-handed or 1d6 piercing damage two-handed.) Tungkwa. These are a pair of short weapons held inwards in a reverse grip, made in both unbladed and single-bladed versions. Tungkwa are somewhat difficult to wield; once mastered, they are a light, versatile weapon well-suited to close combat. Martial weapon, reach 5 ft. Damage: 1d6 bludgeoning (unbladed) or 1d6 slashing (bladed). Has the light and finesse properties. Can be used as a monk weapon. Always sold in pairs. Paired Axes. These axes, which can be either thrown or wielded two-handed, are the favored ranged weapon of heavy infantry of the Torch of Tygrar. Over the years, many warrior monks and paladins of the Church of the Solar Forge have adopted them in lieu of more traditional Scaladosian throwing darts. As a result, many smiths offer versions imbued with elven magic, the most popular of which is the ability to quickly return to one's hand when thrown. (Properties of a handaxe. Has the finesse property, and can be used as a monk weapon. Always sold in pairs.)Ironbound District Jewelers
Jewelry with significant magic is rarely kept on hand by the jewelers of the Ironbound District, though many are skilled in elven jewelrymaking practices. These items are more often made and sold on commission, either by individuals or to more magic-focused shops in the Antiquity District or other cities. However, many of these jewelers do deal in Spellcasting Opals, both in making and refreshing them. The following spellcasting opals are always stocked by at least one jeweler in the district. There is a (9 - spell level)*3% chance any other given spell from the Bard, Wizard, or Cleric spell lists will be available upon request.- Level 0: dancing lights, druidcraft, prestidigitation, shape water, spare the dying
