Anra

City of Industry

A mere 150 miles north of Mendhalia lies the industrial city of Anra. Situated on top of the Sundermines, Anra is the heart of the Kirinian Empire's war machine. Even in times of peace, Anra's forges and the mines beneath are worked non-stop to ensure that the empire's military might is unparalleled on Ankaluun.   The term 'Anra' is often used to describe the settlement on the surface as well as the mines beneath and the loosely associated town beneath the surface as well. Locals are more precise in their terminology, referring to the mines as the Sundermines and the town below as Lower Anra.

Government

As a Kirinian city, Anra follows the standard political structure of the Empire.   It is led by a Commissioner who was appointed by Empress Varya Luun and serves at her pleasure. A High Magister is head of the local judiciary due to the size of Anra and it is policed by members of the Kirin Guard.   Due to the industrial and commercial nature of the city, its guilds hold a larger than common role in political decision-making.

Industry & Trade

Nearly the entirety of significant trade in the city revolves around its ore and the various products created from it. Master smiths from across the Kirinian Empire and the Freelands flock here to prove their worth and craft the wonders for which this city is known. While the trade of ores and arms is clearly the vast majority of trade here, no city of this size could exist without the requisite tradesman of a more common nature. The citizens here have access to all sorts of common goods and even the odd arcane item or two has been known to appear on the local shelves. The Silken Satchel has a significant presence in Anra, even if its presence is not nearly so pervasive as in the capital.

Lodging and Entertainment

As Anra is a fairly large city, there are quite a number of establishments willing to take in those in need of lodging or just to lift a tankard or two in celebration. Some of the more famous ones include...   Brittle Ingot Inn - A bare bones establishment with large rooms in the style of a hostel. The proprietor is a very old human man who goes by the name Gnarl. A few wisps of white hair remain on his liver-spotted head and he is so hard of hearing that most of his conversations with his patrons are a frustrating series of hand-gestures and shouting.   Rift's Edge - Just across the road from the Brittle Ingot is the largest tavern in Anra. Owned by the Miners' Guild, this tavern is never quiet and serves a wide-range of people from miners with modest incomes to the architects of the war machines constructed in the yards outside of town. The head bartender is a massive dwarven man who looks more like the bouncer than a barkeep. His name is Muldane Barleybrew and his family has run this establishment for the guild for more than a century.  Legend has it that a passage to Lower Anra is available from the pub's basement for use by individuals wishing to avoid the authorities.   The Blue Sail Tavern - A quiet bar owned and run by a young human woman named Darla Wilkins, the Blue Sail was left to her by her father who passed a few years ago.  The name comes from his former career as the first-mate on an airship that flew all across the empire.  The tavern is not large but its seating is primarily in alcoves that make it suitable for private conversation.   The Old Oak Inn - The wealthy inn that is a requirements of any large city, especially one which caters to captains of industry.  Run by a tiefling woman named Levrissa, the inn serves those who can afford its rather exorbitant prices.  Its patrons do get what they pay for as the rooms are lavish and the amenities are fit for the aristocracy.     The Other Shoe Bar - A bar run by the rare half-orcen man Modak.  Known as a place where anyone can get a drink, even those of races that are looked upon with suspicion within the empire.

Infrastructure

Due to its industrial nature, the infrastructure of Anra is quite impressive. A series of elevators are built directly into the cliff into The Rift to quickly move ore from the mines below. The city has no water source on the surface so it relies on deep wells to provide the necessary water for both drinking and cooling the forges and other machinery operated throughout. Massive blast furnaces run day and night, smelting the ore from the mines below as well as that brought from the mines throughout the Empire and Burimm.

Assets

The bulk of the un-deployed war machines are stockpiled in bunkers and armories somewhere near Anra. Their exact location is a closely guarded secret.
