Palïðëŋ-Žëe

The Palïðëŋ-Žëe, or the Growth of the Bhakör-Žëe, is a phenomenon exhibited by the species known as the Bhakör-Žëe. Being native to the Ðýmóš Plains, the Bhakör has evolved a mist cloak that allows it to gain nutrients through passive diffusion of rainwater through the cloak and into a large opening in its back. This cloak also doubles as a means for Bhakör to share nutrients with each other through contact as well as an external sensor for anything from sound waves to weather conditions to nearby prey. However, the Bhakör is also dependent on the clouds of the Plains, which regularly obscure the light and heat of the sun. The Palïðëŋ-Žëe is thus a phenomenon that describes the cloak's dependence on this cloudy weather.

In sunny weather, the cloak will become more and more dispersed, becoming totally absent by 45 degrees Celsius. Once this occurs, the cavity in its back is fully exposed to the outside air, and the creature begins to lose moisture and nutrients at a rapid pace. If it does not find shelter in a colder area, this extended exposure will result in it fully dying after 2 hours.

Etymology

The Palïðëŋ-Žëe is one of the most confusing terms in biology. Instead of referring to the process of maturation, it instead refers to the tendency for the Bhakör to dramatically increase its speed and size in an attempt to find shelter and retain nutrients respectively. Early observers would mistakenly interpret this as the 'growth' of the Bhakör when it is now known as the process of death.
