Tyraq (Ti-rack)
A growing shadow cast upon the plains of Cenath...
At the foot of the Cynish Rises lies the sprawl, Tyraq. A cancerous mass, forever expanding across Cenath. Shadowed by the colossal peaks to the east and shielded by the Grey Lake lying westwards. How long it has stood for is a mystery. Centuries perhaps? Others suggest millennia. Some argue its roots go back as far as the beginning of time...of course, this claim does not sit right with others who claim Aethria was in fact the founding city of humanity.
'Dark, terrible and dark it was. The gates alone stood as conquerors over the lands before them. A city devoid of light...without merriment.'
Architecture
Black houses line Main Street. A road of silver cobbles mined from the Cynish Quarries for the sole purpose being for the construction of Tyraqi roads. Main Street alone reaches over five-hundred meters in length. From the Southern Gates to Lazarine Square. Down almost the entire length of the road, are shops. Here, smells drift into the roads creating a plethora of unique aromas. From raw flesh and blood to sweet Laváta fruits. Some hold buckets filled with piles of western spices from Aethria and Mak-Ifrin while others decorate their stalls with vile creatures from the far southern continent of Nícta - a cold and forever dark tundra. Across the cityscape, towering spires pierce the sky. Both churches and bell towers loom high above the houses casting shadows over those that live beneath them. A statement declaring the power of faith within this city. But above all stands the Cathedral. A sacred building that sits upon a man-made hill. Its importance to the city and its empire is unmatched and houses the governing body of Tyraq - the Pillars.Geography
Sat on the eastern ridge of the Great Plain of Cenath provides both benefits and problems to the Tyraqi people. While the fertile floodplains that surround the Myshire River provide farmers with arable land to grow crops and farm livestock on and the seemingly endless flats allow for the constant expansion of the city, there are some downsides. The most notable being the other residents that reside here. For centuries, the Tyraqi people have been forced to fend off attacks from colossal beasts named Mamohti that roam these lands. While typically remaining docile and far from human civilization, when these giants roam outside their territory for whatever reason - whether it be food or a mate - they can wreak absolute havoc. So for hundreds of years, the people here have built giant walls and fought many battles against these beasts to defend their lands.'I sometimes wonder if they are high enough, thick enough, strong enough: the walls. Whether those things can truly be held back...'While threats come and go from the west, to the east lies the city's most vital protector. The Cynish Rises. Behemoths that existed long before the first foundations were placed in Tyraq. These are some of the largest peaks in all of Qerth and are not only an essential piece of why the city holds so much power but also a source of valuable resources. Moonstone for example is mined here. A highly valued resource used to construct lavish buildings sold to all four corners of the world.

With such a giant city to govern, one would wonder how it is done. How are so many people ruled over successfully? Well, the answer is the Pillars of Tyraq. A council of nine individuals all with a vital role and power behind them to control certain elements of the city. Whether it be taxes, defense, or trade. Though what may come as no surprise, is the turmoil that sits between each of the Pillars. Each one with their own wants and wishes. When it comes down to it, it is easy to wonder whether any of them truly care about the people they rule over or if it's all just some sort of rat race.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
That cover image is amazing! Very Assassin's Creed. I love it.
Thank you! Though I must admit it is not my artwork. I will soon be replacing all of my current images with art created using Midjourney as none of the artwork currently used by this world is my own. I'll keep what you've said here in mind when creating the cover for this article!
I look forward to seeing what you create!
