Kobolds

Kobolds are the smaller and less respected cousins of Dragonborn, however unlike Dragonborn or Half-Dragons, Kobolds are not descended from Dragons. They are instead descended from Cosmo, out of desire to offer his mate's children comfort and ease. Dragons instead used these little servants as toys of their will, something to boss around and play with, and as Kobolds bred and multiplied, they were domesticated by Dragons to provide comfort and relief. As a basic troop in their armies, Kobolds were the first to die in the Dragon Wars. Dragons would raise specially marked Kobolds with pretty coloring and markings as status symbols, personal servants, and secretaries. After the Dragons began to flee, Kobolds fled underground, their bodies adapting over time to live in the dark. Their coloring became dimmer, and their eyes grew wider as they became creatures of the darkness. From there, Kobolds split into a few separate breeds, those of the mysterious Underworld, those of the Badlands, those of the Mountains, and those of the Fenwoods.   From there, Kobolds split into a few separate breeds, those of the mysterious Underworld, those of the Badlands, those of the Mountains, and those of the Fenwoods.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Kobolds typically stand no taller than 4 feet in height, with two arms that end in claws and two legs, with a long scaly tail. They are covered in scales of usually darker shades, but rarely a Kobold is hatched with startling shades of light and beauty.

Genetics and Reproduction

Kobolds can lay up to a dozen eggs per clutch, and in the wild only half of these will survive to adulthood.

Growth Rate & Stages

Kobolds can walk within 30 minutes of hatching, and reach sexual maturity at 5 years of age. This is to counteract their nature as prey for many terrible monsters, making the average Kobold lifespan 20 years. Kobolds can, however, live for upwards of 100 years if taken care of.

Ecology and Habitats

Kobolds can adapt to anywhere in time, a result of fear and survival instincts from their mistreatment by the Dragons, who would drag them around to all sorts of inhospitable biomes.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Kobolds, like most Draconic species, rely on meat to survive. Hunting, gathering eggs, and trapping prey are all favored tactics. Then have been known to eat people in the situation calls for it.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Kobolds live in clans, with one Matriarch at the head. Each individual Kobold is willing to give up their lives to protect the clan, from any threat imaginable.

Average Intelligence

Kobolds live in clans, but their traps are the work of wicked geniuses. They are intelligent, and with the right training could fit right in at any university.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Kobolds of the Underworld have advanced perception in the dark, those of the Badlands can feel tremors in the ground, Kobolds of the jungles of Nar-rar-Gazel can sense changes in heat, and those of the Red Mountains can smell through blizzards.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

In some villages in Askary, the Badlands, and the Dwarven Red Mountains, Kobolds are employed for their tunneling abilities, digging sewers and tunnels for payment and lodging, as well as safety.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Kobolds stick to simple names, Draconic but with elements of Dwarvish.

Beauty Ideals

Kobolds do not usually have a sense of beauty, save for jewelry worn by Kobolds. However, all Kobolds hold Kobolds with pretty coloring as special in their eyes.

Gender Ideals

Kobolds have no brush with gender ideals save what matters for survival, females will be prioritized over males should the cavern be overrun, and males will allow their own destruction so that the females may escape. This has made extermination of Kobolds hard, as they need only a fraction of their numbers to bounce back in 10 years.

Courtship Ideals

Kobolds have no courtship among them, mating happening whenever it is most convenient for both the male and the female.

Relationship Ideals

Kobolds have no sense of a relationship in this sense, the whole clan is their family, so mothers and fathers are just a hop away.
