Calliope

,,There is nothing greater than friendship''

Personality:

Pros:

She is a very kind and friendly extroverted person, who can make anyone like her and cheer someone up when they are feeling down. She doesn't care about looks or anything like that, as friendship is what matters to her. Calliope loves flowers and drawing. She spends quite a lot of her time collecting flowers and drawing various locations she and her brother visit. It's hard for her to chose which flowers are her favorite, she simply likes all of them. In terms of food, she loves oranges and grapefruits. She also loves fluffy animals.

Cons:

Calliope is very emotionally fragile and prone to depression, which might take only one very bad day to trigger. Because of this, she is easily emotionally manipulated by others. In situations such as combat, she becomes paralyzed with fear, being unable to act, despite her wanting to. Calliope doesn't have a tongue, which make communication difficult, making her rely on writing to get her thoughts across, not to mention that it clashes with her extroverted personality.

Motivation:

Calliope loves her brother, Arion , who treated her well at her lowest point. She promised to stay by his side and protect him when needed, no matter what. Her secondary motivations are to befriend as many people as possible, and collect as many flowers as possible during their travels.

Backstory:

Calliope was the second child born into her family, who lives in a city on the Whitestone Island. Her father was a merchant who bought things for cheap, then sold them for more in another settlement and her mother worked in an Ambrosia orchard.

Calliope spend her early childhood with her friends, in a nearby flower field, playing and collecting flowers. As 3 other children were born in to the family, they started to have financial problems, so Calliope had to help out her parents as much as she could, mainly doing work around the house, which limited the time she could play, drastically.

As she got older, Calliope had only a small amount of free time after studying at the local Temple of Dantea, which she spent in the library, reading. While she was more interested in books about things like flowers, she also picked up ones about her religion. It didn't take long for her to pick up an interest, which stayed in the back of her mind for years.

Once she reached the age of 16, Calliope got a job in the same Ambrosia orchard her mother worked at. After 2 years, as her family's financial situation started to improve, which opened a lot of free time to Calliope and therefore a lot of new opportunities. She decided to join the local Temple of Dantea as a religious official.

Unfortunately, her plans were soon shattered. One day, when she was working, during a conversation, she accidentally said the name of the goddess. The other women quickly called the guards, who brought her to the temple, where she and the women were questioned. After the trial, she was found guilty of breaking the law, thanks to the women's testimonies. As a punishment, her tongue was cut out.

She became mute for the rest of her life. That was it, her life was over. Her own family, who always supported Calliope started to look down on her. Even her friends refused to even just look at her when she approached them. Calliope became a social outcast. All of this fell on her like an avalanche. All she could do was lay in her bed and cry herself to sleep, every single day. Her mental state quickly worsened, and soon she became depressed and suicidal. She sometimes went without food and/or water for days, as her weight started to drop.

Thankfully for her, there was a light in the darkness. One day, her brother, Arion , entered her room and tried to talk to her, to cheer her up. They never talked much, or seen each other, outside of dinner, for that matter. But his words fell on deaf ears. Calliope seemed to ignored him, so he left, as the light slowly fainted. But Arion was relentless, returned the next day and tried to talk to her again. Whenever she listened to him or not, he came back day after day.

Calliope slowly warmed up to him as they started to spend more and more time together. They became best friends, and her state started to improve. But one day, her brother didn't visit. It was as if he disappeared. She waited days upon days for him to return, but in was useless. He left her, as the light fainted a second time. Calliope's life returned back to how it was before. Her depression started to creep in, as her state worsened again. That was the end for her. The only person to to even care about her was gone, she had nothing to live for.

But, after two weeks, her brother finally returned. But something was different. His right hand, elbow down, was missing, replaced with a hand of Gaurus. (Machines of Gaurus) He announced to his family, that he was leaving to fulfill his dream and sense of adventure, by traveling across different worlds.

He explained everything to his family, and since the punishment for using the hand was being exiled, this was the last time he saw hem. No amount of pleading or trying to change his min seemed to work. Arion has already made his choice. As he said his goodbye and opened a portal to leave, Calliope couldn't bare it. She couldn't lose her brother, he was all she had left. She knew what would happen if she stayed. So, as he started to leave, she ran up to Arion , with the decision to travel alongside him. She swore to herself to stay by his side and protect him when needed, no matter what. He would do the same for her.

From that day, they travel across different world and have all kinds of adventures.

World travel:

For the last year, Arion and Calliope visited many world, had all sorts of adventures and met a lot of people, both good and bad. Because of their lack of combat skills and willingness to fight, they have to resolve issues using things like diplomacy, stealth and bribes, while avoiding combat to the best of their abilities, which doesn't always work out.

Adventures:

Their adventures mainly revolve around large conflicts that they managed to stumble into, where they try to resolve things peacefully, while avoiding conflict, which doesn't always work out. While Arion is at the front dealing with people, Calliope is in the background, not doing much. However, when her time comes, her help becomes invaluable, whenever it is resolving a tense situation, or even saving someone's life.

Traveling equipment:

Since Arion carries most of their stuff, Calliope only has a pouch with some food, a water skin and a blackboard with a few chalks to write with.

Her brother carries her large books filled with dried flowers, drawings of them, and drawings of various locations they visited.

Important events:

(This will detail important character changes and other events that shape her looks and personality. I'll add things once they happen in future stories.)
  • [Backstory] During her first year, Calliope had to learn new skills. She learned to scale difficult terrain better, learned first aid and how how to use things in nature to treat wound and illnesses. Lastly, she improved at expressing what she wants to say.
