Thern
Thern is an important trading town that sits along the Lerthon River in The Rift. The town lies a short distance south of the far western The Dragonpeaks, where most of the regions metal is mined around the smaller nearby town of Ironhold. Thern is a center of trade for metal and other commodities, and is a major center of metalworking and related arts, with iron being worked into the architecture of many of the towns prominant and important buildings, giving the city a somewhat grim look. It is also one of the few towns where Naimar, a group of nomads who live at the edges of Rift, will come to trade.
Thern was historically part of a region known as Dizzera, which stretched along the southern Dragonpeaks and upper Lerthon, from Thern east to South Pass. The edges of the mountains in this region are more humid, creating a dry plain that can sustain herders. The area was long one of the more thickly populated regions of the Rift, and was at one point its own province in the Aurean Empire. It was known for the unusually large percentage of the population able to use magic and large concentration of ancient ruins. Most of Dizzera was abandoned when it was overrun by hobgoblins during the collapse of the empire.
