Thiwyan diaspora
Displaced by the war with Orstadland that ultimately caused the collapse of the Thiwyan Kingdom, the Thiwyan diaspora (Fywnti: ogwebreldac - to be made like the wind) is found as far away as Iasteron (mainly in Qereqia), and Qevrun (mainly in Toinu), though the largest communities remain in North Erwa, in Marad and Abercych.
Primarily an ialy ethnicity, a typical Thiwyan is stocky, with grey-blue fur with yellow aposematic stripes and blue eyes.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Thiwya tend to speak Fywnti as a first language. Although regional variations exist, the language has not drifted sufficiently that members across the diaspora are unable to communicate.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Prior to their displacement, the Thiwya were an insular culture, and the shock of their uprooting has entrenched this tendency, cementing a fierce pride in their heritage and a tendency to intermarry. To avoid inbreeding, arranged marriages are common and matches may be arranged between individuals in different countries.
Education is very important to the Thiwya, as this was the key to success for many of the first generation refugees. In countries with universal education, Thiywan children are often given additional tutoring, alongside a parallel education in Thiwyan history.
Funerary and Memorial customs
In Thiwyan theology, the dead are conveyed to the afterlife by a vulture, and they expose the dead to the elements on raised platforms to be scavenged by birds. The scavenging of the corpse is believed to be necessary to prevent the ghost from haunting the living.
In cultures with differing funerary traditions or where such a practice would be impractical, the dominant hand - a symbolic representation of the deeds which are considered the seat of the soul - is removed to serve this purpose.
