Silver therapy
The use of silver to purify magical spaces and banish malign spirits is well documented, and its use in physical medicine is equally storied.
The use of silver as a spiritual therapy is much more recent. The creation of silver implants was trialled in 5.921 in response to the sharp increase in reported cases of therianthropy in Western North Erwa.
Since treating disease with silver proved effective, it was decided to attempt to discover a prophylactic treatment that would allow people to resettle the region.
Many variations on the therapy were considered before settling on an implant. Tests were performed on penal battalions sent to eradicate therianthropic animals from the region.
Potion-based treatments showed high short-term efficacy, but the dosage proved difficult to calculate and the patient was obligated to dose weekly (daily for ialy). Underdosing lead to reduced protection, while overdosing causes argyrosis.
Dental implants were highly effective - later testing showed that the blood supply to the jaw region conveyed the protection of the silver implant to the whole body - however their success and subsequent high survival rate of the test subjects has lead to an association with the criminal class which has made dental implants socially undesirable.
Benefits analysis
The benefits of silver therapy over traditional treatments are:
- one-time application

- non-toxic
- 95% efficacy pre-exposure, 40-60% efficacy up to 1 week post-exposure
- silver creates a permanent bond with the jawbone, effectively replacing the tooth
The drawbacks are:
- cost - a purity of at least 90% silver is required
- requires surgical implantation
- infection risk
- chance of rejection
- impoverished patients may attempt to remove and sell the implant
