Shifting shores
The northern shoreline of the Quelan Divine Duchy is an unstable place. The strait of Machagon, between the northernmost tip of Quela and the southernmost of Lwakha, funnels the currents and dredges up strange objects said to be from past Ages.
The Bay of Montespinho is relatively protected from the currents and their debris, but the shores on either side of the bay's encircling arms are far less stable. Much of the debris is harmless, but sometimes a particularly powerful artefact - from pieces of glass larger than a house to intricate pieces of metalwork no longer than an ialy's finger - can change the nature of the landscape itself.
The large carved ironstone heads that mark the coastline between Montesphino and Niros were placed in an attempt to secure the shoreline and, for the most part, the magic of the stones holds Reality together but artefacts, especially those dredged up by storms, can combine in unpredictable ways.
Despite this, 's finger - can change the nature of the landscape itself.people
Localized Phenomena
The landscape along the coastline is unmappable and unnavigable by normal means. The large ironstone statues, carved into the heads of the Olmivieran gods, are the only static waypoints - though they infrequently find themselves several miles out at sea. Closer to the cities at either end of the shores, this distortion is less severe but, near the middle, it is possible to see the land ebbing and flowing like a tide, while the sea remains static.
The weather, too, is unpredictable and often severe, with violent squalls appearing from a clear sky and unleashing the force of an hour's storm in five minutes.
Localised magical phenomena, such as standing fire, temporal echoes, and pockets of high or null gravity are common hazards along the shoreline. They are attributable to an artefact that may be buried several metres down or which spontaneously appear to have always been fossilised into the cliffside. Removing the artefact usually nullifies its effect.
Fauna & Flora
With the large deposits of magic in the area, the region is rife with anivorous plants and animals.
