Lonvikland crusade
Beginning in 5.772 and lasting for two years, the Longvikland crusade was a series of battles and massacres between the Vikikia and Thywian kingdoms, which led to the collapse of the Thywian state and the displacement of more than three million Thiwya.
The Conflict
Prelude
The crusade emerged from a long-simmering tension between magico-religious practices of the Thiwyan and Vikikia kingdoms. The Thiwyan practice of invoking gods in their magical traditions and was a longstanding point of contention between the two countries, which escalated in the decade leading up to the crusade.
Following the death of the Vikikian high priest in the winter of 5.771, the queen appointed to the position a Radicalist with ambitions to address what he saw as complacency towards blasphemy.
Outcome
Three and a quarter million ethnic Thywian fled their homes in the years of the crusade. Many travelling through the Daïdänt mountains to Marad and Abercych, but trains of refugees travelling on foot passed through almost every country in North Erwa.
The Thywian kingdom collapsed, the king was deposed and exiled. and the territory annexed by Vikikia. The queen and High Priest used the victory to negotiate an alliance with neighbouring Treldalia, forming the United Kingdoms of Vikikia and Treldalia.
Aftermath
The treatment of the Thywian people has not been forgotten by the people of North Erwa and - with two expansionist empires in South Erwa - the Northern countries were keen to head off any such ambitions in their neighbour. The United Kingdoms of Vikikia and Treldalia became something of a pariah state, excluded from the most lucrative trade and treaties and forced into self-sufficiency,
In 5.846, following the death of Queens Asny-Vikikia and Gyrid-Treldalia in a steamcar accident, the Chancellor bowed to external pressure and threats of military action, and abolished the monarchy, founding the First Orstad Republic.
The Thywian diaspora hoped that this might mean an opportunity to return home, but Orstad has, so far, not made any gestures towards repatriating the diaspora.
