Gunpowder Artillery
For many years, gunpowder explosives were hurled via trebuchet and catapult as weapons of war. When they worked, the results were devastating. However, early explosive projectiles were unreliable, often exploding in mid-air, or not exploding at all.
Tinkers in the forges of Komkolzgrad later developed the use of gunpowder, not as a weapon in and of itself, but as a propulsion system for solid projectiles. Early cannons and mortars were somewhat dangerous, as the experimental alloys used in the barrels were sometimes unable to contain the pressure of the powder charge. Soon after, however, the technology was perfected.
