Gunpowder
An accidental discovery in the forges of Komkolzgrad, the mixture of brimstone, saltpeter, and charcoal first dubbed 'No. 1 Powder' was used for years as a confined explosive device. Pottery, glass bottles, and finally steel containers were filled with No. 1 Powder, a fuse was rigged, and a short time later, the container burst, showering the area in shrapnel and bright sparks.
Obviously useful in military operations, No. 1 Powder is also useful in mining, demolition, and even for holidays and celebrations as energetic displays of light and color.
