Aether

Aether stands as the sprawling metropolis at the heart of Isdríftr, boasting a vibrant population exceeding 300,000 souls. Cascading upwards a giant hill, the city is a bustling tapestry of life and commerce. In its center rises a colossal oak, its branches reaching skyward and forming a leafy crown that stretches over the city, casting a comforting shade and imbuing a sense of protection.   Despite its provincial location, Aether holds the distinction of being the primary trade hub for the region. The city's labyrinthine streets and vibrant markets draw travelers and traders from far and wide, making it a melting pot of cultures and a nexus of economic activity. Aether's prominence extends beyond its provincial borders, fostering alliances and driving the pulse of commerce throughout Isdríftr.

In the heart of Aether, Frostpine Norndrathi culture dominates, expressed through the city's intricate architecture and bustling streets. The Frostpine Oak, a towering testament to Norndrathi resilience, crowns the center, casting its protective shade over the lively city. Each district, with its unique architectural flair, unfolds a captivating story of its inhabitants' diverse origins.

Defences

The Sentinels
As is the case with all of Eikarspír, Aether houses it's own legion of Sentinels. Though it aids in the arming and training of the whole province's military, it will be hard to not notice that extra care and attention has been given to the Sentinels from the capital, featuring a higher quality in gear and equipment.
The Ancients
The Ancients, devoted stalwarts of the Eikarn Dynasty, pledge unwavering allegiance to the ruling family of Eikarspír. Tasked with the solemn duty of safeguarding the monarch and esteemed members of the royal court, they transcend mere warriors, standing as the pinnacle of martial prowess within the kingdom.   Their responsibilities extend beyond the physical realm, as The Ancients are entrusted with facing threats that may emerge from otherworldly dimensions. In their ornate and expertly crafted armor, adorned with Lumithril detailing, they present a formidable and awe-inspiring sight. Clad in shades of green slightly brighter than their Sentinel counterparts, with intricate maroon patterns, The Ancients exude an air of regality and martial excellence.   Individuals among The Ancients wield a diverse array of weapons and armaments, tailored to their unique skills and roles. Masters of several forms of combat, they are a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.   Beyond their martial prowess, The Ancients may partake in ceremonial duties, adding a layer of reverence to their role as protectors of the Eikarn Dynasty. Their training, conducted in a revered academy or sacred grounds, shapes them into elite guardians with a connection that goes beyond the mortal realm.   Symbolizing their rank and skill, each Ancient may bear distinctive markings, insignias, or other identifiers that showcase their standing within this prestigious force. Together, they stand as the epitome of valor and loyalty, a shield against threats both seen and unseen in the kingdom of Eikarspír.

Industry & Trade

Amidst the labyrinthine streets of Aether, myriad marketplaces beckon to those who seek the pulse of the city's commerce. Among them, two grand emporiums stand as epitomes of the city's vibrant trade.   In the heart of the Commerce Crossroads lies the Mercantile Bazaar, a bustling center of sights and sounds that weaves through several districts. The air is alive with the clinking of hammers and the rich aroma of freshly crafted leather, as skilled smiths and artisans showcase their creations. Foreign traders hawk exotic wares, their stalls brimming with treasures from distant lands—offering a tantalizing glimpse into the diversity of Aether's trade.   Ascending to the upper reaches of Aether, the Celestial Heights Grand Emporium unfolds like a tapestry of elegance. Here, the atmosphere shifts to one of refined sophistication. Immaculately crafted goods beckon, from fine clothing that whispers with the rustle of silk to arcane curiosities that spark the imagination. The jeweled displays of the finest jewelry glisten under the city's canopy, inviting patrons to indulge in the opulence that sets Aether apart in Isdríftr.   Scattered throughout the city, various smiths, leatherworkers and tailors, all well-versed in the crafts and styles of the Frostpine Norndrathi.

Districts

Rings and Districts
Aether is split into 3 distinct rings, featuring various points of interest.

The Haven

The outer ring is known as the Haven. This is where most common folk reside, and is, despite the presence of the city's guards, more or less run by criminal gangs. Though they often will let most pass so long as their buisiness isnt disturbed, one should stay on the lookout for any that seem to want trouble. Though it's name might at first seem ironic given the circomstanses, many find that the protection of Aether's walls is worth it for those in the most dire of needs.

The Commerce Crossroads

The middle ring is known as the Commerce Crossroads, often nicknames the Crossroads. This is where one will find the middle class, and most of the city's traders and artisans. Known for their sheer amount of skilled workers and craftsmen, one will often find small marketplaces or shops along most streets.

The Summit

The upper ring, known as the Summit, is where the Upper class is found. Often those who study the fey and their nature, or those who've found fortune in the form of rare materials or goods are found here.

The Hollow

In the very center of the city, the Hollow can be found. The oak standing at the center serves as both a gateway to the feyrealm and the home to the Eikarn Dynasty. Though the gateway remains dormant, the Eikarns stand as it's protector and watcher's should any threat emerge from within or without.

History

Founded at the culmination of the Discord era, Aether emerged as a beacon of hope amid the chaos that gripped the land. Established by the illustrious Eikarns, it swiftly rose to prominence, becoming a pioneering settlement that spearheaded the transition into the Conflux era. This early establishment granted Aether unparalleled standing and enduring fame as a bastion of stability in a world recovering from prolonged conflict.

Points of interest

Taverns
In the Haven, a few taverns can be found. The Moonlit Grove can be found nestled beneath the sprawling branches of an ancient tree, feature a more rustic and charming feel. Lanterns luminate the outdoor seating area creating a magical ambiance. Known for their live performances by traveling bards it's a favorite amongst locals and travelers alike, despite it's place in what some would consider the relatively more poor districts of the capital.   The Silver Serpent can be found tucked away in The Clefts section of the Haven. This tavern can often be found occupied by what some would consider "less savory" folks, and has a rather mixed reputation. Though not the place most would stay in as their first choice, their relatively low prices can persuade even the most worn of travelers to stay the night. The most common reason for a visit in this tavern though is for those seeking buisiness they'd rather be kept under the table.   For those making it to the Mercentile Bazaar, one might find a tough choice between the Merchant's Respite Inn and the Market Maven's Lounge. Each founded by a twin, and ran by the children of each following their appearant passings, they hold a friendly competition to see who can outdo the other. Both taverns feature high quality lodging for those with the coin, and serve their own signature ales and meads. For those enjoying the view of the market and a more bustling and upbeat evening life, the Market Maven could be your stop for the night. For those seeking a calmer, more intimate pub, the Merchant's Respite might be your friend, featuring more sectioned off booths and rooms for wishing to engage in buisiness dealings and contracting, as well as a bit higher quality food.   For those willing to explore a bit more in the Crossroads, one might find their way to the Gilded Griffin Pub. A cozy establishment with wooden beams and warm lighting, it's known for its diverse menu and welcoming atmosphere. It often offers themed nights, including game tournaments and live performances from bards and musicians making their way here.   Those who might find themselves in the Summit might find that the Enclave could suit their needs. Featuring some of the finest food in the entirety of Eikolr, they are renowned for their delicious meals that seemingly not only taste good, but are rumored to have magical properties. For those staying the night, one will find warm and inviting rooms, each with a fireplace and fine pelts offering warmth tranquility, for those who have the coin to spend.

Architecture

Aether's architecture exudes a distinctive Norse charm, reminiscent of old Nordic aesthetics. Sturdy timber-framed buildings with steeply pitched roofs populate the city. Intricate carvings adorn doorways and eaves, depicting tales of feywild encounters and Lumithril's enchanting influence. The cityscape, a fusion of practicality and elegance, harmonizes with the surrounding forests, creating a visual symphony that resonates with the cultural and natural heritage of Eikarspír.
